This is a statement to all Tiger fans, both Posi and Nega. I don't care if you want to move on and get another guy, we as a fanbase OWE Miles this- we need to get vocal in our support to him as LSU's COACH.

And I'm not calling anyone out, because I'm as guilty as anyone else of falling asleep, of letting my guard down. huh?

Les Miles is getting scorned and ridiculed nationally for everything from his hat to his shoes, his speech patterns, to the style of his teams' victories. By actual journalists, not just guys like us posting on the web. There's a difference. Why? because he looks funny? So do lots of coaches, but you don't see the press rag other coaches, only fans, unless the press actively dislikes that coach. Why? Why would the media single Les out, when lots of teams win less than impressively, and lots of coaches make odd gametime decisions?

We've gotten too caught up in our current passions to remember why, I guess. I know I did, until I was reminded of it while skimming a thread on whether LSU was an elite program or not.

Les Miles did what Nick Saban didn't- and what we wanted- and he'll forever be a target for that, and we owe him our support for this if no other reason: HE DARED TO DEFY THE NATIONAL MEDIA'S ANNOINTMENT OF USC, AND SAID LSU WAS BETTER!

Remember all the fawning over USC? How they were going for the Threepeat? Greatest Team Ever? And it was Les (in the preseason, before he won his own title) saying USC only had 1, not 2, and we had the crystal ball from 03. And furthermore, he actually said going through the SEC was more impressive than who USC faced (this was before ESPN decided the SEC was legit. Remember Fla was "taking" Michigan's spot in the NC game in 06). Les opened his mouth and told the world at large that LSU was as good as USC, pissing the media (Musberger, Herbsteit etc) off, and then proceeded to win the title. AND in the process had the GALL to say he'd prefer to be coach at LSU instead of Michigan, further offending national (ESPN) wisdom.

For this sin- for stating LSU was as good a team as there is, and honoring the accomplishments of the prior coach when everyone nationally was on USC's boat, Les will always be attacked. Remember, Frank Beamer at VT is a crafty coach because his teams win with defense and special teams, yet Miles and LSU are frauds this year. Nobody called out Stoops at Oklahoma for their record last year, or squeaking by Air Force by a field goal (in the media). Not like LSU and Les. The only other coach to get reamed like this was Weiss at Notre Dame, because the media disliked him too, and loved to prove him wrong.

Want Miles gone? Fine. Want to bitch about him among ourselves- within the family? Fine, that's our tradition. I, myself, would like a game to be in hand by halftime, instead of going down to the wire.

Goofy-arse Les had our back. For that, we need to have his, AT LEAST to the point of him being our coach. While ESPN is fanning the flames here by ridiculing Miles, we're 7-1 with a one score loss to the #1 BCS team on the road. We have no true offense and are still on pace to win 10+ this year, and may well end up in the Sugar Bowl. If you want a new coach then make it clear you think a new approach can help, but give the guy his due. Tell ESPN to shove it and look at the scoreboard everytime they rag our coach.

I think Les Miles would look great with a Michigan windbreaker on, and it would actually be the correct attire to wear there, as opposed to wearing an LSU one in hot humid weather.

I Love Les Miles, I really do. This is a great guy and from all accounts a great authority figure for young men.

That said, I dont want him as our coach. Sorry.

Les Miles is an EMBARRESSMENT. There is no way I'm going to defend someone that is incompetent and unorganized as his entire program is.

Les brings it upon himself with his quotes, sideline interviews and overall terrible clock management. I find it amusing that people who are neutral towards LSU can clearly see how inept he is while our fanbase is torn b/w him being the biggest idiot LSU has ever had to the greatest coach LSU has ever had.

Does anyone believe he is being mistreated by the media? Is the media lying about how he manages games?

There will be those among us that read this rant , and say NO WAY, and there are those that will say "I LOVE LES"... I am neither! Your article hit on a point that needed to be said. I applaud you
I am like almost everyone.. I am tired of being embarrassed....however, that said... I am MORE embarrassed when I am watching a game, and the comentators seem to RELISH when our fans Boo! It is what they want!
Please try to remember that WE ARE LSU! Sure, act disappointed, screem at the TV, bullshite at the Bars, but, I am with you....don't dishonor our Team... and NO the team does not know if it is the coaches or the Team when they hear the Boos... It may be your free right to do so, But even the lowest life thugs have free rights! I choose to believe that when all is said and done, win or lose, we still have this awesome LSU Pride. You don't think that our opposition right now is enjoying to the hilt watching the FANS turn against the team???
I agree with almost everything you said because I understand what you are trying to say... Feel what you want, share among family, freinds, and other fans.... but when it comes to the OUTSIDERS, don't let them get have the benefit of watching our fan base fall apart!!

I think the point Scoob is trying to make is the way we are being percieved right now as a Fan Base.
I live in Mississippi right near the Alabama line, so you can just imagine the taunting I take! But the truth is I DO bleed purple and gold, and my comeback when Les is ridiculed (allbeit true, and the truth does hurt) I say: "With our Bad Coach, we are 7 and 0, or now 7 and 1, in Alabama's case I say... you have the BEST Coach, according to your fan base, and your record is no better than ours...Lord help y'all when things change down in the Bayou. and as far as Ole Miss fans here, I tell them 7 and 1, and a bad coach, what have YOU got??
Yea... it stinks the high heavens watching our team make the same bad plays week after week, but the truth is, all the booing in the stands is NOT going to change anything for the better, however, if nature has it's way, it just may change it for the worse! When the fans are THAT down on the coaches in the STANDS (boo at the bars and at home if you think it will make you feel better) it will undoubtably have a negative impact on our Team, and they don't deserve anytbing less than what we are suppose to be known for... the most passionate fanbase in the USA!

We don't owe Miles shite. He makes more money than anyone I know to coach a football team and he doesn't do that worth a shite.

I'm going to assume this thread didn't get the reaction you were looking for.

to Miles

What people don't realize is that he really isn't this goofy nice guy. He's an arrogant, can't admit to being wrong Yankee. If you can support that, well you go for it. I refuse to. After so many screw up on his behalfs he may have earned a little of my respect by donating some of his salary back when he realized he didn't earn it last year.

Much truth in that statement. However the game management issues the last couple of years coupled with the coaching staff's inability to maximize the offensive talent have swayed many of those(including myself) who have stauchly supported the Miles regime. Even the horrid Defense of '08 didn't linger with me because Les made a mistake and corrected it after one season. But this inability to get the most out of the offensive talent available is problematic, especially when coupled with the time issues(which are also just with the offense you notice). Remember that you must manage the clock when on defense as well with your timeouts and that has never been a problem. Only when the Tigers have the ball. So offensive coaching, or lack thereof, would seem to be the single-most important area to fix. Being supportive of your school, team , coaching staff, etc. does not mean you have to accept being 2nd-rate. The bar reached the ultimate highth in '07 and the team has slipped well beneath it now. Time to get better. Beat Alabama and the healing can commence.

When I hear a Tiger fan complain about Miles, I assure you this is never on the list.

If anything, I think Miles got some props from LSU fans on this one. I personally don't mind the way he looks/talks/the wind breaker he wears in 90 degree heat, etc. You can do all of those things and still be a phenomenal coach.

What I, as well as most Tiger fans fault Miles for, are his skill sets that are directly relevant to coaching at this level. We are an elite program with absolute studs all over our roster. It is totally inexcusable that the mediocrity on offense has been allowed. A 100 ranking with the 5 star talent we have on that side of the ball is abhorrent.

Miles had an opportunity to go out over this off season and hire a capable OC...he didn't. And now we are faced with the reality where we need to resort to trickeration rather than execution and utilization of our talent to get the big plays and yardage. Might I remind you, we were only able to put up 17 against one of the worst Ds in the SEC.

There are much, much bigger problems concerning Miles than what comes out of his mouth. And it starts with Crowton, the highest paid, most underperforming OC in the conference.

The press doesn't belittle Miles because he condemned USC. That's ridiculous. The press mocks Miles because he makes inexcusably stupid time management errors and his teams play undisciplined, error prone football.
