How Les Miles Screwed Us: Darron Thomas (Oregon QB)

In one of the recent issues of Sports Illustrated there was an article talking about Oregon and it mentioned how Darron Thomas was an LSU commit. Now I knew that at one point he was a commit but I was not aware of why he left. Here's why:
Darron Thomas was a solid LSU commit but was worried that the LSU staff would try to change his position from quarterback to something else because he is an exceptional athlete. Before Darron met Miles on his game day visit in 2007, his high school coach specifically told Miles to not call Darron an athlete because he wanted to play quarterback. Later when Miles and Darron spoke, the first thing Miles told Darron was how great of an athlete he was. His highschool coach said after that Darron was done with LSU and decommited shortly after and later signed with Oregon.
Miles screwed us by losing that quarterback. Anyone who has watched a single Oregon game this season can tell he is a exceptional quarterback and is what we missed out on at LSU. Miles the great recruiter everyone!

I also heard that LM slept with ZL's mom and that's why he left for the MLB./sarcasm
Anything can be said about why LSU lost a Qb. Hell..we had Colt McCoy for awhile, but lost him to UT when RP came. Wonder what CM's high school coach said about why he left.

Yeah, I saw this article too but I couldn't read it. It was in GERMAN!!! LOL
Really though, I read this awhile back and told some of my buddys here in Atlanta. 1 just commented the other day that he had recently watched an Oregon game and paid attention to the QB bcuz of what I was saying. He was laughing bcuz we are in desperate need of a QB and we could have had this guy.

We had a QB ready to start in 07, but he liked to get wasted

Thomas is good no doubt.
Now here is the question:
Given how we went from a traditional blocking scheme to a zone blocking scheme in 2009, would he still have a chance to succeed given the results from it? I am not sure if want to have go through something like that given how things turned out.
Also, Miles could have said what he said to Thomas thinking he was still going to have Perriloux. I will tell you this, those particular events (including RP being forced out) have turned out to be a bit detrimental for the future of LSU football.
With all of that being said how many people knew how good Thomas was going to be in his high school days outside of the idea of knowing he would be good in the right system? On paper he was short of being a Top 10 overall QB in a 2008 recruiting class where there was not a whole lot of great QB talent outside of Pryor, Luck and Gabbert. Oregon simply saw an opportunity in Thomas being on the board, they took him in and put him in a system that was a fit for him and the rest is history.

I honestly think we should stop recruiting these athlete/project type QBs who may not pan out and go for drop back, pro-style QBs who may be more polished.
If Darron Thomas would have come to LSU, he would have definitely been converted to a WR and rode the pine for at least 3 years.

Shepherd got told some BS too.
Darron Thomas could be the 2nd coming of Manning and his QB talent would not have been realized by Miles and Crowton.

He would have still started jj anyway. So it really doesn't matter. LSU doesn't develop talent.

Not to knock the kid, but he isn't anything incredibly special. He is a good QB that plays under a great a coach in a great offensive system.
If he would have come here, he'd look like . . . well, an LSU QB.
