While on some level I am sure some of the Miles "Haters" like seeing him fail, Most of them are true LSU fans that see the risk he presents over the long haul and want to have more consistency in his position.

In the end they want what is best for LSU and he drives them crazy on the edge like he is. I know because I am constantly torn on my opinion of him myself. I love seeing him rip another teams heart out like he tends to do, but I hold my breath waiting for the odds to catch up to him.

Your 2 paragraphs seem to oppose each other. Les Miles does crazy stuff, and the odds do in fact catch up with him. At the same time, Miles's famed insanity is not at all dangerous for the long-term health of the program. The real issues lie elsewhere, in his ability to manage his coaching staff, which has been an up-and-down struggle from year to year.

I think that 5.5 years into his LSU career, you can at least say this about him--he hasn't allowed his recruiting or his coaching staff to stagnate. When things have gone wrong, changes have come in the offseason ... eventually.

There is legitimate concern that (1) it takes too long to change problems with his staff because he's too loyal to his assistants, and (2) that he might keep Crowton in perpetuity. On the other hand, the offense has shown enough improvement so far this year to give Miles a little more slack.

I'm not sure if this whole Crowton/Gonzalez soap opera is going to ever get resolved properly in 2010/2011, but I think my attitude right now is best summed up as ... "still waiting" ...
