We don't make blocks, but we make our own mineral supplement and put it out during the spring and summer. We mix salt, calcium, phosphorus, and some other stuff. One of the guys who hunts with us works for a seed/feed company and knows a lot about it. It has all the minerals they need and a lot of protein.
He pretty much took the Whitetail Institute 30-06 Supplement and Big and J Industries and copied the labels.
The deer love it. We started this year, so hopefully we'll see some results by next year.
