One question:

Why if you are going to fake a field goal do you let over 30 seconds run off the clock before you call the time out? Maybe because they thought if the fake was successful it would be a TD? I know it ended up not mattering but all I could think about was getting to about the 20 yard line first down with 10 seconds left when could have had 45.

I just hadn't seen it discussed and was wondering what other people thought.

calling the timeout made the fake less obvious?

No one seems to have noticed the play clock was running out. We were about to get a 5 yard delay of game penalty.

Yeah - I think they thought it would score 6. It didn't bounce at practice and they had it blocked. He might have made it all the way, too.

Of course, the play that changed the whole strategy was the slant to 80 on 1st down. That set up the next three plays - spike, fade, fade (TD).

By that time though, because of the refs and replay, they had four minutes to plan what they wanted to do.

I assumed it was to sell the field goal.

Les did say he thought we would score on that play. If it were a clean pass maybe so. With the bounce we were lucky to get the first.

The fake was decided after the timeout was called..........

You don't want a lot of time on the clock if you DO decide to kick it and make it.........

When they ran back on the field.....everyone knew TIGER had been called but Jasper & Helton.

They were going to kick it before the time out. During the time out, they decided to go for the fake. It's explained this morning in The Advocate.

I think Miles honestly wanted to kick the FG so he was letting the clock run down. Then he had a change of heart.

Looks like we were playing conservatively for a FG at the start of the drive. We started at our 38 with 3:21 on the clock. We ran 4 times and only passed twice before lining up for the fake FG.

Then conservative playcalling left the building.

I believe he was playing for the field goal and the fake became a plan upon further consideration.

easy answer. it was intentional. miles sold the fake. still plenty of time to move the ball closer to a more makable FG to send the game to OT and plenty of time to score a TD if there is success in the next play or two. the play to get the yardage necessary to be in TD range WAS CALLED AND EXECUTED. the key to winning it instead of tieing it. credit the calls and JL/TT with putting us in a position to win and not tie.

Jasper said in on the of the post game interviews that they went to intending to kick the FG originally. i believe he said they saw FL coming after it and decided to fake instead.

Easy... Ran time off the clock because we were going to kick it..

LSU saw that UF wanted the all out block and LSU called TO and then decided to call the fake. If UF goes all out for a block and its executed right there is a good chance they score.

No matter how good Jasper is, it's a 53 yard field goal. Did anyone watch any NFL games yesterday? Carney can't make a chip shot.

Miles said after the game that they felt they could score on the fake field goal. It wasn't a clean exchange so therefore we got the first down instead of a touchdown.

But it seemed like UF actually had the play covered pretty well.

Maybe they were all out on the block the first time, but after the time out they had a few guys back.

Jasper had to cut upfield inside of the UF defender to make the first

Les is in la la land as usual. 3 FLA players were defending, and they were within a few yards of Jasper.

I think his comment meant that heading out onto the field with the fake called, he thought (due to their alignment before the timeout was called and the way they were coming all out) the play would score.
But it seems that Meyer had the same thought and didn't have as many guys sell out to the kick and Jasper just made a nice play.

I don't think he was saying that he thought the play would score after having watched it.

I think it was because if we make it, he doesn't want any time on the clock for them to attempt to score.
