I have some friends who bay 'em with dogs and take them out alive.

That's what we used to do when I lived in North LA. Some of the best times of my life. We had horses and dogs, quite an operation. I got out of it when I moved to BR.

As for the OP's question, I'm not sure about baiting. I know they love rice fields if you know of some next to woods.
We once had some woodland with a creek running through that they would go to in the summer.

Can they be taken legally now or do we have to wait for bow season? It seems like if they are a nuisance and we want their numbers controlled that they should be fair game year round.

Fair game year round. Kill em all!

Does this apply to WMA's as well? I was under the impression that you could only use the type of weapon for whatever season was open, bow then primitive weapon then gun.

I am not familiar with the regs on WMAs.

Under "the law" there is no "wild hogs" in louisiana. All from domesticated ones that have adapted.

Plant a food plot for deer and they will show up by the thousands!

Not true in WMA's. To take feral hogs you must follow the same rules as deer. Same seasons and weapons that is.

Dig a hole and put all your left-overs, corn, old cheese(just anything) and cover it up with dirt(they will find it). You then hunt over it. Building a trap works great if you just want to get rid of them.

we just want to kill a few no matter how i bought some hog attractant today and what looks to be like a salt lick for hogs that lasts up to five weeks so we will be trying that out saturday

If you are hunting private property- CORN.
Once they find it- they keep coming back to it.
Beginning in 2011 on private property, you can hunt them at night from the last day of February to the last day of August with a shotgun or .22 rimfire- with artificial light, infared, lasers, or night vision.
Hope this helps.

WMA's consider hogs a secondary species, like coyotes. You can kill a hog during any season, but you must use the appropriate weapon for that season. (bow,p.w., gun=deer; shotgun, .22=squirrel)

This is correct.

Here's another way to consider:
Trapping- using a walk-in hog trap or snares.
Snares are a VERY effective method. The really large hogs are difficult to catch in a hog trap- but snares are usually a very reliable method.....
