He was the first P.A. announcer ever heard in Tiger Stadium. Can still remember his booming voice announcing starting lineups.

I more remember him at basketball games...I started following LSU in 1980, when he would introduce Greg "Cookieman" Cook, Howard "Hi-C" Carter, and Leonard "Swat" Mitchell.

Sid was great in football, but even better at basketball games. Sid and Daddy Dale, those were the days. Oh, and Big Red too booming Tiger Bait better than anyone I've heard.

Agree 100%. Loved the way he boomed "Here come YOUR Fighting Tigers of LSU!"

He also had a lot of fun introducing the pep band, "just back from a sellout tour of Outer Mongolia," etc.

He would announce that "smoking was prohibited inside the arena, but was allowed in the concourse area - except those funny cigarettes you students like to smoke". He was the best!

Was a member of my Church until he passed away a few years ago.

Sid was the best, no doubt. He and the band used to be funny.

I can remember as a kid, they would post on the scoreboard Lumpkin PAT Good. I always thought the guys name was Pat.

Those were the days. 68,000 louder than any 92,500 in there now.

Just remember his TS calls such as:

"Doctor, Number 478, Doctor, Number 478, please call Medical Exchange".

Sid Crocker was a god among boys when it came being a PA Announcer.

He also was the news anchor for WAFB Channel 9 back in the early days of TV. Remember him well he was great in the P-Mac and that voice would roar for seconds after he called out a name.

Yes, I commented in the JF thread about him. My high school friend and I used to imitate his distinct delivery, "Davis carries." He was someone that you also looked forward to hearing at each Tiger game in those days.

When I was 6 or 7, my folks would have the Picayune delivered as their afternoon paper. One afternoon, there was a knock on the front door and it was "Big Red" making his yearly subscription collection. I thought that was sooo cool that he was at our house. As he was leaving, I shouted "Go Tigers!", to which he turned around, looked at me and my Dad, smiled, and yelled "tiger Bait - Tiger Bait"

My pop to this day said I had a grin on my face until I went to sleep that night. -

True Story.

I was in the Court Jesters back in the day. He'd introduce us as a musical aggravation. We'd yell back "Hey, Sid! What's a comfort station!" after he pointed out the locations. Basketball games used to be fun.

I remember him very well....His son was good friends with my oldest brother & his wife. Aside from being the announcer in Tiger Stadium, we also remember Mr. Sid's work at Channel 9- AND as the voice of Senor Puppet on Buckskin Bill. Those two used to do some cutting up while doing that show!!

Check out this old promo for WAFB Channel 9...Sid's voice can be heard at the :51 mark....

He was also the weather guy on WAFB in the 1960s. He had a promotion for kids who sent in a postcard to the station. When their postcard was picked, he'd announce their name and hometown on TV, and then mail that night's weather map (in those days it was done on poster paper--no electronic presentations), with his autograph to the winner. I got mine circa 1965; I kept it for a long time.
