I will tell you what I dislike........

I live in Kansas City, where there are massive numbers of Nebraska fans. They are , to a man, convinced, that their team will be undefeated and play in the BCS national championship game. Their team FEEDS off their fans optimism and overwhelming support. Why is it that so many LSU fans have such a negative belief in our team ? Is Nebraska a better program than LSU ? Their fanbase has an incredible belief in their success that it sickens me to see that so many Tiger fans, have no faith. Do you all realize that Nebraska only gets 3, maybe 4 instate recruits a year ? It is awful to hear Husker fans tell how great they will be with a former LSU assistant as their head coach.

Both fanbases are showing delusion. They are just on different extremes.

Easy answer. They have been bad until recently.
We have been very good til recently.
I am about as positive a person you will see. But I can see why some are pessimistic. I just don't care for the ones that have already given up.

If Bo Pelini was our coach I'd be optimistic as frick too

I would be pretty confident as well if we played in the sorry arse Big 12 North.

Did anyone pay attention to the Huskers game vs. Texas, and their deconstruction of AZ. in the bowl game ? They will be undefeated to the Big 12 title game. No fanbase cares more or no where does it mean more. Lsu fanbase needs to adopt same mentality.

Nebraska, 5 National Titles since 1970, every game a sellout since 1961, 35,000 fans at a game at Cal. recently. Lsu fans need to step up and pull for Tigers no matter what.

Doubtful considering how many rantards hated Bo when he was DC. He was Bo Tepperlini, now he's a savior. Go Figure.

Its just the direction of the programs over the past couple of years.
Nebraska went through that nightmare with the former Oakland Raiders coach trying to install the west coast offense in Nebraska. The famous Blackshirt defense became a smelly hunk of swiss cheese; it became not unusual for teams to score 50 points against them. They had a slight meltdown and a lot of their fans sounded like a lot of ours do now. Pelini has brought them back to that tough, smashmouth style Nebraska was used to. They are ranked #9 in the pre-season poll; back to where they used to be.
They have been moving up the last couple of years while we have been sliding back the last couple of years. Moreover, we have enormous talent on offense, have the highest paid OC in college football ($1.1M), have multiple 5-stars out there any given play, and we have the 112th ranked offense. And he is still around, calling plays and not developing QBs. And its not getting any better.
That is why a lot of LSU fans are in the place a lot of Nebraska fans were in a couple of years ago.

I think that there is more support then the rant shows. Sure talk around the town is negative but everyone is excited about the season. I think if the Tigers come out swingin against North Carolina you'll see a upswing in fan support.

Look at their schedule. The only strong team they play is Texas, and even Texas is weaker this year. If LSU played their schedule, we'd all be predicting 12-0 or at worst 11-1 going into the championship game. The sad part is, the way the system works, they could very well end the regular season with one loss or none. They would be a middle of the pack team in the SEC.They are kind of like South Carolina with a strong D and mediocre to fair offense.

Pelini is not the Savior. That person would be Zach Lee. He is the new Savior of the LSU athletic program.

didn't Nebraska fire their coach after winning 10 games. The fan bases are actually pretty similar

There are just alot of people on THIS board that do it for reaction.....
Overall........LSU has a positive fanbase

Ummm... because they are a bunch of delusional Husker-tards and we are all suave, erudite football savants???
Posted on 8/15/10 at 11:58 pm to flyingtexastiger
5 national titles , all legit, are 3 more than the shorthorns have won in the last 40 years and 3 more than the entire small 10 has won in the last 42 seasons. I guess Husker fans do have something to root for.

Good topic. You could make the case it's because Nebraska is on the rise and LSU isn't. But it's more complicated than that.
I wish I had an answer to this. I wish I had an answer why there seems to be a lot of negativity by some people on this board. I think there are a number of reasons. With a message board like TD.com you can say anything. There's no face value, there's simply words on a screen. You can hide behind tigahfan2719 and remain completely anonymous. Also there is the fact that there's a new generation of fans that started following the Tigers once they got really good this past decade. Instead of being someone who has followed LSU through DiNardo's bad days (at the least) they are people who jumped on during Saban's heyday and simply expect National Championships yearly. Which is fine.
The problem is when those expectations turn into a generally negative approach to LSU football. I'm blown away how many people bitch during the season, after the season and right before the season. What's the joy of LSU football if you are always bitching? I'm not delusional. I was pissed in 2008 and I was pissed last year, but I don't let that ruin LSU football for me to the point I'm someone who is as optimistic as a 1980 Saints fan.
I watched the Ole Miss game last year where I screamed my lungs out after our head coach blew the game. I've seen how Alabama is on the rise. I'm not an idiot who thinks Jordan Jefferson will throw for 4500 yards and 38 touchdowns. I realize this team has weaknesses for sure (as well as strengths) I think for the people on hear who constantly portray a "we will suck" attitude it honestly speaks more to me about a person's character than just their thoughts on LSU football. It's fine if you think LSU won't do good. It's a different story when you post a topic on why believe LSU will lose to Miss. State and you just had to let the world know.
I don't know how the Tigers will do this year, but I'm hopeful it will turn around (9-3). I'm hopeful things will get better. And if they don't then I'll be upset and what not, but I'm sure as hell not going to develop a loser mentality.
(cue in the smart arse replies to my rant)

Point is, Husker fans never think that their team is on the rise, they BELIEVE, that Husker football is the cat's arse and will never accept defeat nor even the possiblity they will not win and win big. I have seen this insanity firsthand and it never abates, they are convinced of their greatness.

so why did they fire a coach after a 9 win season?

Did you just figure this out tonight?

Is Nebraska a better program than LSU ?
Right now the two are very close. I have been there, but LSU is a better program because of the proximity to a fertile ground of recruits.

Yea... go back up to the question above
you're welcome
