This is an awesome thread. I'm on pimp's side here.

I guess, as a guy who's faced serious challenges in life, i know you have to make a conscious choice to over come the situation you are dealt. that's life. no one cares. you can boo hoo all you want. however, at the end of the day, it's you that has overcome the situation. no one will do it for you.

As a father of three, I would give the advise pimp is "pimping". Everything in life isn't going to go your way. It's not HOW you get the opportunity. its WHAT YOU DO with the opportunity.

E.P. has some hurt feelings and his pride has taken a hit. wont be the last time. If it was his choice to go to lsu originally. That is what he wanted to do. that choice hasn't changed. a delay of 6 months shouldn't sway you.

it's not because i'm a lsu fan. it doesn't matter what he does to me. i just think this is the best advise in life.

it's like taking the last shot of the game and missing. if you let the miss stop you from taking the last shot again, then you will never make it to win the game.

I don't disagree with you or Duckie.
I think if we were sitting at a table we would nod in agreement and move on to the next point.
But I've SEEN THIS a million times.
Kid faces adversity at LSU, kid bails, kids life stalls, kid is 35 and working for 25k a year at Winky Dinky Dog and telling himself "I coulda been a contender"....

If he's my kid, I say-NOTHING has changed.
Let's BEAT THIS.
Let's get to work !
Because something really unfair is going to happen at UK too.
And if you deal with adversity by fleeing this time....

Calm down with the cliches JFK.

It's not about "adversity" it's about spending his college years at a program he feels comfortable at. And if this situation changed that for him and LSU is no longer that place that's understandable.

Don't try and paint this kid as a coward who runs just because his college choice might be different now.

Unlike you I'm sure Porters dad #1 priority is his sons future and not LSUs, so I'm willing to bet his advice is going to be different than yours.

Do you seriously think I personally care from a win's/losses perspective if our 26th/27th best recruit enrolls ?
Please.

I have just seen this so many times.
It almost always ends badly.
I bet it ends well for Cameron Fordham though.
Just like it did for Trindon and Harry.

For LSU to compete in the tough SEC.....this thing will happen

It's the way it is.......Don't blame LSU and Miles.......blame the NCAA for the rule.

Porter is the unfortunate statistic that would have to wait a semester......I understand if he doesn't want to wait and good luck.

Let's move on........it won't be the last time it happens at LSU OR other schools that are trying to get the BEST players into their system.

Had this comment in another thread......so I copied...just my O

I feel badly for Porter that the final news came so late in the game... I don't buy that it was completely unexpected because he can presumably read and saw LSU signed more than 25... and he wasn't one of the highly rated recruits

At this point I kinda hope he finds another school that he prefers and chooses to go there... nothing personal against Porter - but now this is part of his news cycle at LSU. And especially when he's a kid who likely never contributes at LSU he's probably going to catch some grief from some LSU fans

Best situation for everyone might be for him to decide he prefers A&M or KY and compete for starting time by sophomore year (hell might be better for LSU too - we need spots for next year more than we need someone unhappy to have been grayshirted)

Well boo freaking hoo.
Welcome to adulthood.
So you have to defer your FREE COLLEGE RIDE for 6 months.
I worked on a freaking tug boat to finance LSU and it took 5 1/2 years you whiny little shite.
Pull up your Spongebob size 56 underwear and sit in the Big Boy chair, Porter.
Man the hell up !
Or gtfo!
Some adult in this kid's life needs to tell him about the REAL adversity, the death, the sickness, the loss, the nut-crunching, soul-stealing reality that happens in the real world.
To ALL of us.
Put his arse in a dress and send him to College Station because if he goes all moist the first time he has to defer a little gratification, he's a FLOP waiting to happen.
There, I said it !
Damn !

You sir are.....CORRECT!!!!

Many of US did the same thing...worked for the education that is now paying the bills..it won't hurt him..

So, exactly how was this kid harmed:

1 He got news late
that
2 the start of his full ride scholarship

at the flagship in-state school of his choice 90 miles from home, where he wants to go

will be delayed 120 days.

So he's visiting less valuable choices many miles away, so, I guess he can attend a school many miles away?

Not perfect, but, really? This is a huge problem?

I'm sorry; I do not get it.

You care more about LSU than Porter true or false?

If Sylve signing day switches to LSU and we are already full and we have to pull Porters greyshirt to get him you would say no that?

Let the kid make whatever decision he wants and if that is a different school wish him luck and try not call him a coward for it

Maybe he just doesn't feel comfortable at LSU anymore and now that he has a full release he is going to take advantage of it.

if that's the case. no one is going to blame him. no one is begging him to stay if he doesn't want to.

The kid should do what he wants to do. If he wanted to go to lsu, then the fact he's offered a greyshirt shouldn't even come into play. he still gets what he wanted. 120days shouldn't matter.

his behavior and the people all up in arms over this is the point. not what he wants to do. if he doesn't want to come or feels uncomfortable, fine, don't come. However, to act like you've been wronged in some kind of way is absurd.

if you can't handle this, then you are going to be in for a long hard life. there are bigger hurdles facing you.

What I don't get is the NCAA rules on this sort of issue.

1. He had a scholarship offered and signed.
2. he was told he needed to accept a greyshirt
3. if he doesn't have the means to pay school and housing, why can he borrow the money or get it some way without it being a violation?

or

Are all of the NCAA rules not in play because he is not officially a recruit or a player.

I agree, his best interest is to go somewhere else. Certainly no reason to think the staff won't pull the same thing twice

f'n asinine. The kid was on every kind of financial aid available to be able to attend Shaw. I'm sure a kid like that has had an easy life and has never had to struggle.
