Bulwark
Energy absorbing materials
Sounds promising and a prototype within a year.
Energy absorbing materials
quote:
Princip has spent the last six months redesigning the football helmet so it can better dissipate energy from collisions. The result is the Bulwark, a design that still features internal padding, much like current helmets covered by a solid shell.
But the true innovation lies on top of that shell: a shock-absorbing layer of pre-molded foam. “It’s like an industrial-grade bubble wrap,” according to Princip. That padding layer would then be covered by four separate sections that comprise the outer shell.
Sounds promising and a prototype within a year.

Why can't the design look more traditional? While it serves an important purpose, in reducing head injuries, it's awful to look at.

Sounds like it may be better.

They need to work on the appearance. Where will we put our numbers?

Do ya think it might look better in red with white numbers?

From my avatar you could gather that I ride motorcycles and the materials that bike helmets are made of have not changed since the 60/70's bout time some new technology should be coming into production on both fronts.

Concept stage; a prototype and final design are a year away. Even so, with the new rules regarding concussions, an ugly helmet vs the star player on the sidelines....I vote ugly helmet.

They need to make them tear away helmets, since they'll be paneled. Kinda like we used in the 80's before yet another rule to keep Bama down was enacted.

Speaking of helmets; McElroy's TV camera is Bitchin'....

Should be a pretty good ESPN show.

I think it will too; it should provide some interesting footage.

Dre wouldn't wear it. It'd hurt his swag..

6 months doesn't seem like a lot of time for research & development

looks like something dr spoc would wear.
I've been out of the game a few years but I always hated the new revolution helmets and new "lightweight" or "aerodynamic" designs. The chinstrap snaps, facemask clips, etc. always broke. NOt to mention, had to air them up constently. Need to stick with the traditional helmets.
