I've gotten to where I just ignore all the off topic crap about me and just read the good responses that are about the movie/actor that we're talking about. Some posters are obsessed with me, it's funny though.

Same here, and not just comedies, all time movies.

Did you even read what cough wrote? He said that's exactly why your threads have many off-topic comments. If you would answer the critcism, which you didn't do before the ban, or do now, you might quell the dissent.

Wow, don't we hold ourselves in high regard? I just really like the M/TV Board, and hope that it can retain a certain quality.

I've given you some pretty constructive responses about movie recommendations and I never get a response or anything. I would love to give you some legit recommendations if you could just respond and make an effort to watch them. I'd LOVE to know what you think of Seven Samurai. (Not sarcasm. I really mean it.)

In a specific category, maybe by decade or high school movies, it would be Top 5. Overall, all time, I just can't give it a Top 10 or 20, but not too far off of that.

Dan, Thanks for getting rid of the Jack "Departed" picture. For some reason that picture bothered me as much as your threads bother others here.

I am a big D & C fan.

I grew up in a small town in Mississippi during the 70's.

Dazed & Confused takes me back to when I was 15 years old trying to hang out with my older brothers and their friends.

It is a very realistic portrayal of small town life in the 70's.

The drug use, the music, the fashion and hair styles are on point.

The camaraderie between the football players, the younger guys taking 'relationship' advice from the older ones, being underage and trying to buy beer is all just as it was.

There is a Wooderson in every town.

There really were cool guys to learn from like Pink.

Coaches were assholes and there really were assholes like O'bannion.

I bought the VHS tape when it came out and it is one of those movies that I will watch whenever it playing.

Can't just read what the actual argument is can you? Sorry to be snarky, but I am tired of repeating the argument:

The quality of the of posts wouldn't come into question if Dan didn't post so much. Period. Having a couple of threads per week that randomly talk about a star or movie for no reason at all, that spark no discussion is ok. 3+ per day, I think devalues the board.

Now, if everyone but me wants to turn this board into:

Top 3 Tom Cruise Movies
Howards End (1994) Starring Academy Award Winner Anthony Hopkins
Top 5 Movies About the 1984 AFC Champion Miami Dolphins
Top 3 Directors Named Tom
Easy Rider (197*) Starring Academy Award Winner Peter Fonda
Elf Starring Academy Award nominated James Caan
Top 3 Actresses in Abe Vigoda Movies
Dudley Moore - Top 5 Performances
1993 Top 20 Movies Containing References to "Scumbags"
Paris Hilton Combs Her Hair in Public - The scoop
William H. Macy vs. Danny Glover
Johnathan Jackson vs. Jack Johnson
Top 10 Movies Featuring Wig-wearing, Mentally Handicapped People
Top 3 Lines from Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction

And so forth. Then so be it, I guess I can't stop it.

No criticism, no ranking systems, no official thread debates on new films, no talking about media and culture, no technology threads, etc. How good would the board be then?

Freaux, I love you but boy can you bring some faux drama.

For about the 100th time, we only have one to two pages per day max on this board. Even when he was at his worst it was NEVER hard to find a post since all you need to do is scan the first two pages and almost 100% of the time that will be every post from the last day.

His posts are simply no more objectionable than almost 62% of the other posts.

Hell we are lucky if we have one or two decent discussions a day on this board.

And NO it is not his posts knocking some epic thread off the first page that keeps us from discussing the symbolism of a tiny bee in someone's hair in a Kurosawa movie.

Maybe so. But I really enjoyed the board when he was gone, it was different for sure. I think some would agree.

Maybe it had to do a lot with everything going on, the end of Lost and 24, renewed interest in Chuck, the fun, but eventually tiring, tournaments, the Comedy and Sci-Fi Lists, the Banner thread, etc. It was great. As soon as he came back it seemed the dynamic changed some.

Point taken. But to attract maybe some new posters, you don't want them to have to do this, right?

I just come look at the topics and if there is a movie/actor/director that I enjoy watching mentioned in one, I read it.

You might notice I did not rank the movie because I do think that is an asinine thing to do.
I certainly don't think anyone here cares wheter or not I like a movie.

I do understand your frustration with Dan asking people for ratings but I don't post here that much so I don't feel the need to police the board.

Dan does start too many of these kinds of posts but every so often one is about a movie I really enjoy.

Maybe Dan should just throw out the name of a movie and ask whether we like it or not and why instead of asking for a list/rating.

Example:

Subject: Dazed & Confused

Post: Like it?
Dislike it?
Why?

It's not really asinine. It's good when either A) It's not asked often B) It's something interesting and original or C) There is a greater purpose to the rankings. Not just randomly.

Exactly. One "every so often" is great, because everyone posts these eventually. But to do it so systematically every single day is just boring.

The above may be the biggest beef, and the reasons for my rants.

Look, I'm not really like this, and I don't like doing it. It's a necessary function I must perform. If EVERYONE participates in Dan's posts and there is no dissension, the algorithm will begin to expand and become self-replicating. Soon his posts will litter the board, much like they were before he was banned. We will see 6+ posts per day. As long as there is at least one negative voice, Dan the algorithm will keep himself in check. I learned my lesson the first time.

To put it into movie terms, I am the Neo to Dan's Agent Smith.

Did you think the systematic hazing was realistic?

I saw an interview with Richard Linklater, and he said that was the most common question he got from fans, but that actually was one of the most realistic parts of his high school experience.
