I know that a lot of people on here hate the whole "Battle for the Boot" thing because it pretty much sprung up out of nowhere. But, I am personally excited for it. First off, Arkansas seems to always play us tough. They also seem to be on a rise with petrino and what Mallett was able to do last year and is expected to do this year. I think if Arkansas continues to improve it could turn into a prominent rivalry that's known well throughout the country. Does anyone agree with this?

I agree with you. Arkansas use to be an easy win and now they are just getting tougher ever year. The coaching staff has done great things with that program.

It had a chance with it's novelty Friday after Thanksgiving time slot. Now that the SEC squashed that and put THEIR favorite rivalry in that slot, it will be just another game.

We can barely hang even with them now. If they get any better, it won't become a prominent rivalry because it won't be competitive.

I just don't view Arkansas as a rival. Having grown up in an LSU home where Ole Miss was both despised and regaled I would like to see this game take on added rivalry importance again.

I like the rivalry.

For a while though it hasn't been relevant b/c we've kicked the shite out of Arkansas. But for the last couple of years and maybe this one, it's too close for comfort.

I don't get why people either don't care or don't want this to be a rivalry. The more the better because rivalry = emotion and lord knows we've been running short of that not only on the field but in the stands as well.

If Petrino and Les stay put, it wont be much of a rivalry since LSU will lose most of the time.

Are you fricking kidding???

This is NEVER going to be a nationally relevant rivalry.

Also, our historical rivals are the University of Alabama and the University of Mississippi. Arkansas only recently joined the SEC, and the rivalry was only created to make Arkansas fans forget about their long rivalry with the University of Texas.

Arkansas left its rivalries w/the SWC, although they renewed a series w/A&M.

the LSU "rivalry" is manufactured.

b/c of family/friend ties to tex am and ark, i have always thought of them as natural rivals.
when i found out:
ol miss considers us after moo state and bama.
NO OTHER SEC team has LSU in their top 3!!!
lsu is considered as LOW as ark by everyone else.

we are both dissed and therefore i adopted ark as our greatest rival.
and, i soooo wish tex am would have joined sec.

Pig sooie.

That in itself is plenty enough to make me want to beat them.

It's not a real rivalry. It's a forced rivalry. There's no real hatred from either side to make it into a rivalry. IMO the only rivalry LSU really has at the moment is Ole Miss and a budding one with Alabama that can be squashed if we start to be noncompetitive in that game

I agree with those who say it's a manufactured rivalry. However, it's a smart rivalry to foster. I think past conference affiliation combined with the number of games is what stopped the rivalry from developing 'naturally'.

Arky has done well for themselves in SEC and they're a better fit for this conference than they were for the SWC/Greater-Tejas-Conference. They're in the same division for 2 decades now, and given the closeness of the games I'd say that makes the Tigers and Piggies rivals.

I think it has some of the ingredients to make a rivalry but I don't think it has had the spark to ignite it (so to speak).

It needs something like the Halloween night touchdown run, the earthquake game, controversy about putting time back on the clock, a fire in the vicinity during the game, something wild like that. I mean Darren McFadeen brining the wood is all well and good but I don't think it quite rises to that level.

Another thing in the last decade or so is that LSU has had a taste of competing for and winning a couple of National Championships and I think our fanbase would kind of prefer our most intense games to be against other teams that have done that recently. Arkansas can be good some years but I think it's been awhile between championships for them.
