Correct. It's not a trick play at all
I guess maybe. However, it's not the same as a hit and run. In the hit and run case, it's a steal with the probably of the throwdown if the batter does not make contact. From there, there is still a good chance for the steal (statistically it's more often successful than not).
However, in the suicide squeeze, if the batter fails to make contact, it's an automatic out for your runner who was in scoring position.
I can see why people don't view it as a "trick" play because it's somewhat common. That's about the only reason I wouldn't call it tricky.
BTW, in the football definition, it's a trick play. At least according to the people who chime in wikipedia.
LINK
They go on to say, "A trick play is often risky, offering the potential for a large gain or a touchdown if it is successful, but with the chance of a significant loss of yards or a turnover if not. Trick plays are rarely used not only because of the riskiness, but to also maintain the element of surprise for when they are used."
For whatever wikipedia is worth.

what they did wrong was pull the 3rd baseman to the outfield. Dean hit it right to third

yes and no
In most cases with the hit and run, the runner doesn't try to get the same jump as if he was stealing, so there is a good chance he gets caught.

It is much easier to make contact bunting than swinging away. Hell, you can throw the bat at the ball if necessary and only need to foul tip it.

I'd be happy if we knew how to bunt without a double play.

The squeeze is to baseball like the fake punt or flea-flicker is to football. It's gimmicky due to the low probability of success. They all fall in the trick play category.
Then are stealing third and bunting for a base hit a trick play?
