Among the largest schools -- the nine with at least $90 million in operating revenue -- the biggest winners were Texas, up 32 percent to $138.5 million; LSU, up 32 percent to $100.9 million; and Texas A&M, up 33 percent to $98.1 million, according to a review of athletic department financial records.
A&M is that profitable in spite of the product they put on the field?

LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva, 56, said the Tigers’ 2007 national football title is still driving revenue increases. “Everything stems from the championship,” he said in a telephone interview from his office. “We increased ticket prices, we increased seat-licensing revenue, and we had a lot of licensing revenue generated by the championship that spilled over into subsequent years.”

And if things don't get better soon he'll see what it's like on the other side of that fence.

pretty much the reason i think miles could be canned this season if the team tanks. with all the talk of the dreaded buyout, revenue like this is just too huge to keep us tied to a coach.

Good point. That kind of revenue will set a new standard. When standards are not met, they will start looking to replace him.

if they can convince their fans to squeeze their balls to show solidarity with the team, they can convince them to ponu up a few extra bucks

Missed the entire point. People will come to the games no matter what you negatards say.

While you are correct I noticed, for the first time in a long time, that it wasn't quite as "butts to nuts" as it has been in the past for the big games. Plenty of empty seats for both UF & Auburn. Another year of 7 or 8 wins and all bets are off if Miles is still the coach.

ive never thought of LSU football as a "product".
i know some of you do, but its always been much, much more than that to me.

By the time we play Florida in 2010, we will probably be 5-0 or 4-1 at worst. There is zero chance we don't sell the game against Florida out.
That being said, I think Alleva is missing out on a HUGE revenue stream by not charging people that leave before the 5 minute mark of the 4th quarter.

it might be more than that... but they don't give it away for free if you want a seat

saw plenty of empty seats in the final gerry d days.
my point though is that with that kind of money being made by the program paying off a coach's buyout isn't as big of a deal as some may think.
