Not questioning his coaching/recruiting, but this Dugas kid is a player. 110% from start to finish.

The fact that he is small and played in a weak 3A district at teurlings, and having few scholarships were all factors - can't get everything right

I guess the new roster limitations don't help either.

Be happy with the sluggers we have

Here's a similar choice:
These two were high school seniors in 1994. Coach Bertman and Coach Bailey had to chose one first baseman. They went with Eddy Furniss. They passed on Lance Berkman.
(I figured Furniss was the best choice since he stayed 4 years at LSU and Berkman only played 3 at Rice)

It was either Mikie Mahtook or Dugas.

and mikie plays 100% start to finish as well, equal trade imo, have to root for both being from LA

yeah he's exceptional, but since it could only be one we got the perfect fit in mahtook. i love his passion!

seriously! why cant you certain lsu people get it through your thick heads that not every athlete from louisiana wants to play for lsu! geeeez! this is f-ing ridiculous. you think just because they are from louisiana that they owe it to their state to play for lsu, get real!

Maybe Dugas didn't qualify? I don't know the particulars, but when filling out a recruiting class coaches don't usually sign two guys for the same position, other than pitchers. LSU's outfield was pretty crowded with young players 2 years ago.

This has nothing to do with that. It's not like he left the state because he wanted to get out. LSU made a choice to recruit and sign a different player, and chose not to recruit Dugas. Would he still have gone to Bama had LSU recruited him? No one knows and anyone who says they do are liars.
As I said in a thread earlier about this, I like that Mahtook is at LSU for reasons other than baseball. The baseball part is a wash because they're both really good. If the roles were reversed, you'd see wayyyy more complaints about not offering Mahtook, because of the family connections.

It was an either or with Dugas and Mahtook. Both were talented.
When faced with the choice Maneiri went with Mahtook. Probably because he was bigger and had a little more power and more of an upside.
We can't sign every available player in Louisiana. If LSU had offered Dugas he would be a Tiger.

It does when you factor in the fact that Coach Mainieri only needed one outfielder.

Outfielders. Mikie started at CF last year. But with an outfield of Landry, Mitchell, Jones, Mahtook, Dishon, Gaudet, etc. there wasn't room to sign a bunch of outfielders that year.

You said TOPS.

Considering Mikie Mahtook contributed a ton to winning a CWS, I'll go with PM on this one.
