I was a waiter at Serrano's for two years in college (2004-2006). I was a closer one shift and the place was dead. Manager cut everyone but me and the other closer.

30 minutes later was have a packed restaurant. Her and I each had 12 tables with the manager taking a few to help. Needless to say, I was in the weeds all night.

Serranos has this menu item called the casserole. It is a bowl of melted cheese with your choice of meat on top. To make it fun, the waiter has to roll the customer four of them at the table, using spoons. fricking stupid.

Anyway, table of 6. Six orders of casserole. I can't roll them. I don't have the time. I explained that to them as I handed them their food.

Probably 10-15 minutes later I made the round back to them, and everyone was just sitting there looking at their food, untouched. I asked what was wrong. One bitch snaps, "you are supposed to roll them for us." I just look at her dumbfounded, make a hand gesture that the place was packed, and walked away. I ate that tip. Oh well.

Anyone else have a good story?

I had to help carry a 90 year old man, still in his chair, to his car. He was so drunk he had no clue what was going on but refused to get up from the table. The couple that he was eating with tried for at least an hour to convince him to get up and the owner even sat down for a while to try and coax him away but he refused.

I was closing lunch one day, and ended up getting an eight top. I pretty much had them pegged as low tippers. Looked like a family celebrating something, babies and grandparents were all there. Anyhoo...service was going fine, table seemed to be having a nice time, then in a rush they ask for the check, and bolt out. Just handed the money to the manager. They ended up leaving a pretty great tip, I was surprised until the manager told me why they bolted so fast...one of the kids had pissed all over the seat, and they just sort of wiped it up with a ton of napkins and left them there. Since I was going to be cleaning up the child's piss, I guess they figured that was worth 20%.

After working in restaurants for over two years, I have plenty of stories, but that one sticks out right now. Love getting back together with the restaurant crew, and drunkenly retelling "waiting tables" stories. We've all moved on from the restaurants, but the stories stay just as funny.

The only thing I remember from my waitressing days was I was waiting on a guy who had pretty much met his limit with the whiskey he was drinking. He finished his food. I asked if he was through and when he replied yes I took the plate away. Guess he later came to his senses and remembered he wanted to rest of the steak for his dog, because he asked for it back and said he would give me an extra 20 to go get it out of the trash.
I promptly asked the dishwasher if they would get it out for me and split the cash with them.

Back around 2005 some guys our age, 21ish at the time, started trouble in the restaurant with me and my server buddies, we ran into them at walmart about a week later and tried to fight them but cops broke it up, so the next time they came to dine in the restaurant we mixed toilet water in their salsa for their chips and salsa

I have a similar story to the one with the kid pissing on the chair, although not as bad.

A table I had with kids wanted crackers for the kids while they waited for their food. I told them we were out, as I did with tables that requested them for their kids. They stopped another server and that server brought them out to them. I don't think one bit of cracker was actually consumed. At least 5 or 6 packs of crushed crackers covered the floor and table. It was so bad, the parents were embarrassed to leave. They grabbed a broom and dustpan from the server area and tried to clean it up but it was still a big mess for me to clean up.

Can't remember if they left a good tip or not. Now I wish I would have worked at Texas Roadhouse. Wouldn't have had to worry about it.

(sorry this is long!)I was bartending the night when hurricane Rita hit, I was pissed I had to work considering I would be driving home in hurricane force winds (I think storm was scheduled to hit around 2 or 3am). Anyway, me and another girl were working and around midnight it started getting crazy out of control busy. We were probably 4-5 people deep all around the bar. We actually had to call another one of our friends to come help us (we probably needed about 3 more people). We soon learn that the reason we are so busy is because all of Tigerland had lost power completely so all the bars had closed, sending all the already hammered people to our bar. Around 1:30am we're feeling pretty good.....we know we have made an outrageous amount of money, and it was almost closing time, but then we realized.....we had at least 100 tabs open, we were in the middle of what was almost a full-blown hurricane, and the power is most likely going to go out at any second. So we frantically start trying to write down card names and amounts from the computer. Not 5 minutes later, the music cuts off and everything goes black. We had 200 drunks screaming, pushing and just in general being idiots. So then everyone of course wants to close their tabs out immediatley, and are screaming "give me my f'ing tab!!". We had to wait for the owners to come hook up the generators, which seemed like an eternity. Anyway....theres no great ending to the story. I basically had to tell all the assholes to either leave their tab/card and come back in a few days, or to wait and shut the hell up. Worst night bartending I ever had.

This always happens. I've never understood why parents think their kids want crackers, or cheerios, or whatever they try to put in front of them to keep them busy/quiet. I promise I've never seen a cracker or cheerio eaten, they just all wind up on the floor in a mess. You're lucky they even tried to help clean up at all. Most people just hit the road because it's one of the few times they will not have to clean up the mess.

Melting Pot -

A group of people come in to celebrate a birthday party. It includes the husband and wife as well as the ex-husband of the wife (bday girl). Children are there as well as grandparents. Probably about 6-8 people. Plenty of drinks are getting knocked back. All of a sudden the ex-husband and new husband get in an argument and it comes to blows. My buddy was the mgr at the time and one of his first shifts, gets knocked into another table and ends up calling the cops. Kids are screaming crying. I want to say a female waitress broke it all up. Unfortunately I missed the brawl part. Pretty good for a pretty nice place.

Hated the spaghetti on the carpet bit. Had a chick reach over the bar and try to steal a bottle of bar vodka. She was drunk, around 5:00 pm. Caught her outside with it and she dropped it and it busted. Should have called the cops but she was friends with one of my waitresses. Had a cooks wife come in and tried to beat up a waitress once. Used my paring knife from the bar to do a trach on a guy who got hit walking down the road by a car. He died 2 days later. Had a stripper for a hostess one time. Had a hostess get a 100.00 tip from a drunk once. Had some customers sitting outside on our wooden deck find a bum sleeping underneath them. Good times

Wasn't a server at this place, but when I was working at Sammy's Highland, some woman drove her car into the building, almost taking out a family seated at the table by the wall, and then walked up to the bar and ordered a drink.

Did it happen right after they got the bill for cooking their own overpriced food?
