Maybe the whispers show up when death is near or at least possible.

Stu, the only reason I don't think that its an alternate timeline bleeding through is that a lot of the dialog is directed at what is going on in the scene. Kind of like they are looking down on the situation and talking to each other about it.

I know, which kinda goes back to my premise. We've only seen snippets of the alt timeline. Yet we know that similar things happen in both, although not exactly the same. My hunch is that when the 2 events in both timelines are so similar, and under such similar circumstances, plus, I 100% agree:

....... which is a "heightened" situation, something about the island allows them to hear the other timeline, if only in a nearly inaudible format. Deciphered, it would appear that they were island specific, but, in reality, if you could witness the two side-by-side, the dialogue would be nearly identical as the players and the circumstances were nearly identical.

like 95% of my gibberish, it's a stretch, I know

I don't think they are always involved with an appearance by the Others. There can also happen when Walt or Smokie shows up.

wasn't it stated that initially the whispers were supposed to me the others talking to eachother but they changed that during the course of the show?

I'm sure it's been said 100 times, but speaking of Walt, have the writers or anyone else ever said if we'll end up getting closure on Walt? Like why he's "special"? I don't think I'd be too upset if we don't hear his story by the time it's over, but I am kind of curious.

I dont think we'll be seeing him as apparently the actor has aged considerably, and I wouldn't be upset at all if we didnt find out what Walt was doing from the time he left the island until now.

But, I will be pretty upset if they dont at least say why/how he's "special"

Could Walt being "special" just be part of Jacob/MIB's manipulation of the 815/Others?

What do you think about the whispers? Have you read the transcripts?

I have no idea.

I like the alternate reality merging idea; it seems the most plausible,

I dont think so

they know Walt's special because

a) they have some sort of meter/gauge

or

b) Jacob told Richard

I don't think so either.

They even alluded to him being "special" in his flashbacks. Like him being in places he isn't supposed to be and the bird flying into the window. His step father said that bad things happen around him. That negates any hint of manipulation going on.

Not trying to be rude, but I think ya'll are diving deep into something that probably won't be addressed, and is simply an interesting sound effect.

Unless the Others are completely fricking insane and can appear in the middle of the Hatch or the Freighter, then it is very safe to assume that the Others are not solely responsible for the whispers. Read this and you will be convinced there is no possible way the Others are solely responsible for the whispers: Whisphers Transcripts

What if a monkey crawled out of Jin's arse? You are just asking irrelevant impossible questions. Locke proved that "Dead is dead" to where if you die, there is absolutely no coming back. Walt is alive.

Alot of scenes parallel the original timeline, to where they theoretically could.

Yep, but that was before the LOST Bible was established. Episodes 1-10 they didn't exactly know what they were doing. This is before Carlton Cuse, one of the 2 masterminds of LOST, got on board. Once Carlton got on board, they established the LOST Bible. David Fury (writer of Walkabout) quit before the Bible was written has told all the secrets at the time like an a-hole, but most of the mysteries then didn't have answers that were fully conceived. They had no idea what was in the Hatch for instance.
