How many african american quarterbacks have won national titles? Besides Vince Young in 2005 im having trouble. Not playing the race card at all, just wondering out of sheer curiosity esp in a day and age where they are almost as common as white qb's.

The OU QB's name escapes me. Was on one of Switzer's national title teams in the 80s.

Thanks, couldn't remember.
What about ND's qb? I think his name was like Tony Rice or something like that.

Ok, so by our count there have been 9 black quarterbacks that have one national titles. Thats alot more than i thought. Given that stevens guy from minnesota was the first in like 1960, that means 9 titles in 50 years. But thats not really accurate either bc im sure southern football wasnt integrated enough to have that happen pre 1970's. Having 4 win(ward, martin, leak, young) in the past 17 years isnt bad.

Yeah, 9 is a pretty good number- more than I would've though as well, especially given their relative newness to the position.

You note that football was integrated in 60s/70s, but blacks as the signal callers for premier level programs is a post 70s phenomenon. This makes 9 NCs more impressive.
