I don't want to see his pic on the front page of both recruiting sites all year like SH this year. I realize this is paranoia, but it is what it is. If he is slightly under the radar, so much the better.

I know there are a lot of idot posters on this board who flame you because you are an SC fan, but I, for one, appreciate your virtually unbiased posts and west coast insight towards LSU

Dude, if he is rated the #1, #2, or #3 OL he is not going to be flying under the radar. Ever.

I just at this time don't think he is the top OT

"only 6'5"? Huh? That's plenty adequate height for a prototypical OT.

It's mostly about wingspan anyways.

And Dan, let me clarify-- he is not an ideal LT. That is the glamour OL position, and will be ranked higher generally speaking.

Does this mean Collins is not going to come in and make a difference?

I think he will be starting on the interior of the OL by the middle of his Freshman season.

Every ranking that has come out other than Scout(who has him #17)has Collins in the top 10.Most have him as the top OL.Scout has him #3 at OT.If that's not a top 3 OT then there are a lot of people wrong.Just because Henderson is 6'8(and overrated)doesn't mean that all OTs are that tall. That's not a knock on Henderson,he's very good and the top OL in the country for his class but he's not top 3 in the country overall.Powell,Allen,Hicks,Woods and Jeffcoat are all better players imo not that means a whole lot.Collins is very athletic and has a great frame for a Tackle. He will transition to LT or RT very well in college.Height is not the key for a left tackle.Arm length and quick feet are the top criteria for a LT.Collins has both,as does Henderson.

Collins is missing prototypical height or weight for a LT. That doesn't mean he can't grow one-- or both-- ways.

Henderson already has an NFL frame with tremendous athleticism for a LT.

I see Collins as a RT or interior OL. Does that mean he can't be ranked high? Of course he can. Generally speaking though, you are not going to see many 5* OL outside of LTs. While Collins could be listed as a LT, I see him projecting more on the other side or inside. And I would be shocked if he isn't a 5*. I just don't think when the dust settles this summer that he is going to be the #1 overall OL.

But let's see how Collins does at any elite camps he goes to. That will tell a lot.

Also watch Powell. He is a freak of an athlete, but he seems to have gotten a reputation for taking a lot of plays off. I think Owa and Jeffcoat could end up as better DL/DE players because they are both high motor players.

And for the record, I wanted Owa over Powell! Damn ucla...

Im not saying Collins will be a LT his entire career at LSU, but Ciron Black is 6'4 and was a four year starter at LT for us. Collins is already 6'5. If hes not a LT its not because of his height.

Where he ends up could be depeneding on LSUs weakspot along the line when he arrives, because I cant see this guy spending any time on the sideline. He needs to be playing somwhere from day 1.

Will he be the #1 OL in America? I dont know but one of the analysts on rivals said he would take Collins over Henderson, so if hes not #1, hes prolly #2, and is there that much of a difference? Collins is a 5 star LOCK.

I agree TrojanACE that he will not be #1 at the end.Even with all the hype Henderson got he still got passed up on most lists. This year is 2-3 times deeper with top end type talent and that will make a huge difference in where some guys are ranked as compared to some past years.I absolutely believe that if based on talent and not ranking in the top 25-30,that there will be arecord # of 5* players this year.Talent wise some of these guys are better than a lot of this past class' 5* guys.
On the ther point I actually like Jeffcoat and Owa better as well. They both have a drive in them that Powell will never have.Powell has/will always get by on his athletic gifts alone. That's the main reason, imo, that he was rated #1 on a lot of lists. He is impressive athletically but will he ever try to get better or will he rely on that to get to the NFL?I think those are valid questions.Owa will be a beast.Different work ethic than most top guys.

Huh? This makes no sense. There's many LT's in the NFL around his height.

And as far as peformance at camps, a rivals analyst already said as a junior he's better than Seantrel Henderson...

From your previous posts, you seem well informed and a generally good poster. This has me scratching my head, though. Could you please clarify.

2010 Pro Bowl
5 Tackles
3 6'6
1 6'5
1 6'4

He will obviously put on weight, and even if he doesn't grow another inch, he has the height and wingspan of a Pro Bowl OT.

I disagree. He's 6'4 285 as a HS Junior. He'll easily be up over 300 lbs in college and likely grow an inch or two as well.

lol no

the "big" OT experiment has gone and it mostly failed

6-5, 310 or so with good wingspan and athleticism is the ideal
