Your first impression of Miles when you knew he was our HC

The first thing I ever did was to check out the Youtube "Let 'er Rip" comment vs. OU. I thought at that point, despite hardly knowing who the man was, that he was an aggressive,over-confident, pushy, ballsy bastard. I kind of liked that. I thought he might be a guy similar to, ironically, Woody Hayes. He looked, in that video, like type of guy who might just fly off the edge at any moment and maybe punch a player or two.

3.8 million bucks later, he's been the absolute opposite of what I thought I had seen. As soon as I saw the Madonna headset in the '05 opener in Tempe, I sort of knew then what kind of guy he really was. I chalked it up to having his first premier job, but his demeanor has been the same since.

I'm not asking "who do you want to replace Miles?" in this thread. I was just curious to read what many of you thought he was going to be the first minute you heard he was our next head coach at LSU.

I don't think many knew who he was.

I live in OK and not many OKState fans cared that he was leaving.

First time I saw him out there, I wasn't too happy. He wasn't physical enough for a coach.

I'd heard that we were looking at Les Miles and Mike Leach, and I told my friends that both were idiots and wouldn't last at LSU.

I was right. Les Miles isn't good enough to be LSU's coach.

My first reaction was, "Skip hired a guy that blew a 35-7 halftime lead over Texas & just got blasted 33-7 by Ohio State in the Alamo Bowl. Damn you Skip!"
When I heard Miles' speech as his LSU introduction, I knew we were screwed. It was as painful to listen to as this year's team was to watch.

Disbelief and denial was the reaction. Impression was not favorable based on his resume and accomplishments as a head coach.

Similar to yours. A hard nosed, blue collar, verbally abusive task master with a chip on his shoulder.

I thought he was black.........then I saw his picture and I realized I was confusing Les with someone else.............but I was never certain who that someone else was.

I was tailgating in the Vet School motor home lot talking with my brother in law and said that he would bring the program down to a mediocre(sp?) program. He would bring us down to a .500 team. We aren't quite there yet.

I was unsure. Oklahoma St. was making a little name for itself back then, so I hoped he would be a diamond in the rough. Had hoped for a much bigger name to come to LSU, but was ready to see what he had. First couple of years, it seemed like he was going to work out, but I had sinking feelings about his hires for assistant coaches (Malveto) that proved to be based on more than just bad vibes as the 08 season devolved. And then there was 09... I think Les Miles is a decent fellow, but is not ready for LSU level of excellence and has brought the team back to the DiNardo malaise days, as if Nick Saban had never been there at all. Somebody will have to help LSU relearn excellence, discipline, leadership, focus, and fundamentals one day. I don't think it will be under his watch.

since Saban left us at the alter, we weren't in a choosy situation.

Nobody really knew about Saban before he was hired and successful at LSU. If not for success at LSU he would've never commanded the salary and control he did in Miami or the mega deal Bama threw at him. People were complaining about Saban over Butch Davis, Dennis Erickson, etc.
