Does Joe Pa stand on the sidelines...

or is he still sitting up in that booth? Admittedly, he's one of the few people in cfb I'm not worried about Miles getting "out coached" by, and I say that simply because the man is like 140 years old.

I believe he's on the sideline again. Sat in the booth last year after either hip or knee surgery.

Don't think he does much coaching anymore.

Neither do I. But I am sure Penn St. assistant coaches will outcoach Les Miles.

yes, with support from a walker.

Don't kid yourself. Those assistants still do Joe's bidding. He may give them the reins during the game, but if he wants something done, it gets done.
He still gets very involved in the gameplan and is a lot more active in practice than people think.
Yes, he'll be 83 by the time we play, but the guy is a freak of nature. He continues on because he enjoys it. And the things he enjoys revolve around his involvement with the kids. With his new hip, he's no longer in pain and is enjoying himself more than he has since before his leg was broken on the sidelines against Wisconsin in 2006.
Don't judge a coach by whether or not he wears a headset. Joe never has and his record speaks for itself.

Joe does next to nothing. I think he still watches game film and provides some input, but really it's not much. Jay Paterno plays a more prominent in it all than Joe.

My favorite recent JoePa story -- during special teams practice (something Penn State could use all they could get this season) Joe personally kicked the onside kick at one point to demonstrate something.
Also this one was pretty awesome: Please don't ever retire, Joe Paterno

Didn't he crap his pants on the sideline a couple of years ago?

I dont believe this. Sure he trusts his staff but I think he has a huge input. Just because he is 83 people think this. He is sharp as a tack and knows what he wants. He is not like Bowden who didnt know where he was anymore.

He pissed in his pants one year because he forgot to put on his Depends.

Methinks you don't know as much about PSU as you like to lead on.

Joe Pa is a legend and one of the great ones. Crack on him all you want but you can't name many coaches that have seen and accomplished what he has.
What will most of us be doing when we are 83? Probably not half of what Joe Pa has done.
Come time for the bowl game, I think he'll have his kids fired up and a good game plan in place. IMO, PSU has played better since he has returned to the sidelines, that has to mean he has at least some input during game time.

I heard they have an assistant specifically assigned to JoePa for gameday. The assistant is responsible for escorting him to the restroom, making sure he eats his solids and wiping the drool off of his chin.

Just a few things Joe Pa has seen in his day:
Discovery of penicillin
Linbergh's Atlantic flight
Invention of television
The Great Depression
Jessie Owens winning the Olympics
World War II
The launch of Sputnik
