I think Bama under Saban will be the team to beat in the West, and it will be the exception that Bama is not in the SECCG. I dont know if Bama's situtation was so much better than LSU's when Saban started at each, but theres no denying that Bama is rolling on the field and in recruiting, and last year's 12-2 actually improved. Petrino will do some good things at Arky and occasionally LSU might play up to its ability, but Bama seems consistent.

Now he'll also have the Officials in his back-pocket. I said we'd have to beat the officials when we played them this year, and wasn't too far off.

Why? I don't understand that. He couldn't do it when he was at LSU and there are better coaches in the SEC now than there was when he was at LSU.

Is he immune to attrition and having to start new starters like every other team in the country?

Under Cholly Mac and in the Bryant era, LSU's role in the SEC was kind of like the "spoiler" because we could occasionally muster up a few surprising wins and seasons, but never dominant or dynastic. Better than average was LSU's role. We had our moment in the sun, and our time in the Hallman/Archer circles of hell. Now we're reverting under Miles back to form. Spoiler, better than average, but dominant, elite will elude us because our HC is a nice guy and a bit outdated for modern SEC play.
