I thought this was cool, a quote from a piece at the advocate.

quote:

Still, Johnson said, he didn’t see a happy player in the locker room when he saw Mitchell.

“Going into the locker room, he was the first guy whose face I saw,” Johnson said. “He was visibly frustrated because he knew we weren’t playing very well. I told him, ‘Look, we’ll get back on track. Enjoy this one. We won.’”

No wonder he can get his guys to play for him.

Quote was from this story at the advocate

I'm so glad Trent is our basketball coach.

Dear tards....please stay away from the LSU basketball coach as we will struggle some this season and I don't want your "tardness" to infect our coach. TIA.

My bro-in-law is a head coach for a JUCO that Trent recently visited to recruit one of his guys, and he told me that he was greatly impressed by Trent. Having dealt with many big time coaches recruiting this player, my bro-in-law said LSU was really fortunate to have a guy like Trent who understands the players and does things the right way. Said he was a really straight up guy that didn't have that arrogant behind the scenes attitude that a lot of the big time coaches have.

The only the that scares most of the genuine basketball fans on this board is his nomadic nature. If I was coach I would be frustrated with crappy attendances like the ones in the PMAC last year.

You're right. Unless he builds the program up to the level Billy Donovan has at Florida. It's not a final destination kinda job unless/until Trent turns it into one. Then he might not be able to leave.

That's why I spread the word to everyone about LSU basketball, trying to get them to go to games. Not too successful so far though, except for the ones I physically bring with me.

I try to recruit as many students I can to the games, even then they always think that we suck prior to attending. The culture of us being known as losers has to end soon. Unfortunately this teams projected struggles may prevent that from happening right away.

This is when the real fans support the team. Success is great but that shouldn't decide your fandom.

That's the problem though with the current state of our program. It's been one step forward and two steps back for awhile now. If this team can compete, I think that the negative correlation with attendance will swing positive. Until then the Deaf Dome will only come around once or twice a year when we get on ESPN and the bandwagon students and fans decide to attend their one game a season.

Just win the ones you are supposed to win, be competitive, and have fun! The fans will follow.

No, I like TRENT and it is not like he walked in on a NC Team. He needs some time. You are right.

Les on the other hand......

Where are all the thousands of fans who claimed they would not attend LSU basketball games as long as John Brady was the coach. Based on the alleged numbers there should have been sellout crowds last season and this season.

Consistency is the key. LSU really needs to make 3 consecutive NCAA tournaments to prove they are here to stay. Apathy set in during Brady's tenure and it's going to take more than one season to bring back the average fan. Here's a couple of quiz question for you. When is the last time LSU made three straight NCAA tournament appearances? When is the last time LSU won at least once game in consecutive NCAA tournaments?

Strictly from memory, I believe this is 1991-1993 for appearances...

And one game in consecutive tournaments is 1986-1987??

1991-1993 is correct. If apathy set in during Brady's tenure then it is doubtful that big crowds will ever return. Let's review:

2003 NCAA tourney team featuring Ronald Dupree one of top 15 playeers in LSU history

2004 17-4 7-3 SEC with three weeks to go when LLored injured. They were still an NCAA probable until the last week of reg season or SEC tourney with exciting group of freshmen including freshman of year Brandon Bass

2005 NCAA team with SEC Playe rof Year Brandon Bass and Freshman of year Big Baby Davis

2006 Final Four team , SEC champs All American and SEC player of year Big Baby Davis and electrifying freshman Tyrus Thomas

Had Lloreda stayed healthy that would have been four straight NCAA teams with marquee players every year. If this was not enough of a draw there is no hope. The biggest problem has been the constantly escalating cost to support the football program with TAF contributions etc eating up discretionary funds.
