2004:
Rushing Offense = 194 ypg (#20)
Passing Offense = 202 ypg (#72)
Total Offense = 396 ypg (#38)
Scoring Offense = 28.67 ppg (#41)

Rushing Defense = 99.75 ypg (#7)
Passing Efficiency Defense = 103.2 (#10)
Passing Defense = 157 (#5)
Total Defense = 257 ypg (#3)
Scoring Defense = 17.48 ppg(#14)

So we averaged nearly 400 ypg on offense, and nearly 200 ypg on the ground. Our pass attack struggled, but was still ranked higher than this years.

The defense was ranked in the top 10 in 4 out 5 categories with the 5th ranked at #14. I'd say that team was a little better on both sides of the ball. Look at this year's stats for comparison:

2009:
Rushing Offense = 128 ypg (#84)
Passing Offense = 180 ypg (#100)
Total Offense = 308 ypg (#106)
Scoring Offense = 24.82 ppg (#76)

Rushing Defense = 133 ypg (#48)
Passing Efficiency Defense = 109.4 (#20)
Passing Defense = 189 ypg (#23)
Total Defense = 322 ypg (#28)
Scoring Defense = 14.73 ppg(#8)

So we are significantly worse in every single category with the exception of scoring defense, which we are slightly better, but that's because other teams own us at TOP and we let them drive up and down the field on us slowly shortening the games.

This team is no where near the 2004 team, so please don't compare them or 2002 for that matter. Even with the 5 losses, a statistically better offense and overall defense.

Forget the stats:
We beat Florida, Bama, Ole Miss and crushed the Hogs.
We could well be 0-4 against the same teams this year.

There is no comparison.

Only similarities would be Saban had his mind it seemed on the NFL that year, and god knows where Miles's mind has been this year.

I wish Chicken could post game threads from 04. I would love to see the Oregon state, Troy, OM, Vandy, Georgia, and Iowa threads. People hated Jimbo and were pissed at Saban cause he could not pick a QB. You Negatigers probaly influenced him to go to Miami.

Strength of Schedule

2004 - 59th
2009 - 13th

2004 SOS - 46th
2009 SOS - 22nd

Still have two more games to play in 2009 against teams that have won at least 7 games.

Just sayin'. Who you play and how good they are also has to be considered when you are talking about offensive and defensive stats.

Too bad the only stat that matters is the one that shows who has the most points when the clock reads 00:00. The rest is bullshite.

All 3 teams were nowhere near the teams we played this year. Just to add a little perspective.

okay then how about this...
I'll take a team with Marcus Spears, Laron Landry, Corey Webster, Travis Daniels, Joe Addai, Dwayne Bowe, Buster Davis, Skyler Green, Andrew Whitworth, Early Doucet, Rudy Niswanger, etc. and a coaching staff of Saban, Dooley, Muschamp over the
2009 edition.

First off, I am comparing 2004 with 2009, not 2007 dipshit. Furthermore 2007 needed every top team to lose twice to meet a mediocre tOSU team in the NC game. That was a messed up year of college football and the 2006 was actually BETTER than the 2007 team.

As for the guy claiming Bama, Ole Miss, and UF are better? Sure. Bama and UF were above average that year and Ole Miss was mediocre.

Now, Auburn was 14-0, UGA was a top 15 team, Oregon State had a 7-5 record I believe and not a losing record like UW. Yet both those SEC teams are mediocre this year. Vandy was better in 2004 than this season by a lot. We played both UGA and Auburn on the ROAD that year too. We played UF on the road in the Swamp.

You guys love to say Bama, UF, and Ole Miss yet ignore that other teams were just as good that year.

the loss to Iowa was meaningless.

the 2004 team was distracted, unfocused and disinterested with Saban's impending departure.

Randall's two best games in 2004, Florida and Arkansas, were far better than anything JJ has done this year. Offensively the 2004 team, as flawed as it was, was far better than this year.

Sorry for the typo Catholic Tiger. Thanks for pointing out, I've edited it.

My point was for people complaining about how we felt in the 2004 season to this year as a reason to defend Miles.

Yeah, Auburn '06 was the hardest-hitting LSU game I have ever seen. '87 Ohio State would be 2nd.
