**denote players who eventually played in the NFL

So, when Nick Saban took over at LSU in 2000, he inherited at least 20 players who went on to play in the NFL.

According to many on this board, Saban built the LSU program from the ground up. That assertion is not supported by the facts as LSU had a lot of talent on board when Saban took over.

I agree that Saban taught LSU how to win over time, but even with the talent he had on hand, Saban lost 12 games his first three years at LSU and 3 during his fifth and final season. Yet many LSU fans consider Saban infallible as a coach.

The same results from Miles would cause Miles to be run out of town as evidenced by the calls for his head after losing to the top two teams in the country this season. However, I guess some would rather make decisions based upon emotion rather than facts and/or results.

frick, you miles coolaid drinkers just cannot give up your hate for Saban. LSU has always had some decent talent, it just a matter of coaching them and Saban coached them and imo better than Miles.

Good post, but you are bringing way to much logic to the rant.

I swear most of the posters on the rant are worse than a crazy obsessed ex girlfriend when it comes to the great $aban.

Not this shite again! LSU lost 8 freakin games the season prior to Saban. 15 losses in the 2 seasons prior. He went 8-0 in his 2nd season at Bama and is poised to go 8-0 again this season.

I hate the lil prick, but why the hell do idiot fans need to substantiate what he did at LSU?

Was LSU considered at top tier team in 2000? did anyone really know of any of these players before saban got here besides Josh Booty or maybe trev Faulk?

Saban and Miles both took over programs with tons of talent. The Saban years gave Miles the measureable advantage of a program on the rise in the public's eyes. That's what Saban did from the ground up. Dinardo's last two years had demoralized much of Tiger Nation and severely reduced the team's national perception. Saban winning the first SEC title in 13 years and then the first MNC in 45 years busted open the doorway to national prominence that the Tigers had been excluded from entering for over a decade. Dinardo could lure the talent, just couldn't manage it properly on the field. In many ways I see Les in the same light. The big difference in every year save '08 is Les does hire better coaching talent than Jerry ever did.
I will add that had the coaches been reversed for this game last Saturday the plethora of horrendous wrong calls and no calls would have doomed a Saban-led Tiger team as well IMHO.

During Saban's five seasons at LSU (2000-2004), he had 24 players that were selected in the NFL draft. Of these 24 players, 17 were already on the LSU roster before Saban ever coached a game as a Tiger.

The original poster left off Brandon Whiney, Norman Lejeune, and Louis Williams. There were actually 23 players that Saban inherited that played pro football. With those 23, he lost to UAB. Saban did alot of great things, but he inherited many good players. His worshipers hold Miles to a different standard.
