I'm done now, and will stop editing my list. This is pretty challenging. A Sci-Fi list all by itself would've been hard enough, but to add comedy on top of it, made it very tricky. I realized last night how the sci-fi genre is just getting broader and broader. I put in Clash of the Titans because, well Harryhausen just needed to be on the list. Then I jumped to Conan the Barbarian and well, my list just exploded.

Personally, I think Science Fiction lists should be limited to topics strictly dealing with at least three of the following as main characters or settings (or in some way a major part of the plot): space, aliens, time travel/parallel worlds, the future, technology, androids, or superhuman abilities. However, we left the door wide open for much more to come in and, well...they did. Eternal Sunshine is not a Science Fiction movie (it is an awesome movie though).

My judging was based on overall movie production quality, lasting impact, timelessness, best representation of a particular genre/director/actor, and in some cases just plain nerdiness. It would be pretty easy to skew the results of the list to put at the top of my lists movies that I know I like, and want to see on the top 100, however, they may not be chosen by anyone else. Yet, I tried not to do that, and assumed that we were really getting a representative grouping; however, we aren't.

All that being said...Freauxen thanks for all the effort you're putting into doing this. If nothing else, I had fun making my lists.

I would also, like to suggest a future list(s):

Horror

Fantasy

It would also be an interesting, yet lame/boring/almost gay thing to do to see what everyone would choose if they had to make a list on the best period piece/dramatic/chick flick type of films out there.

Prison movies might also be a good subject.

Glad you enjoyed it. I have something bigger in mind overall, but we'll see how the next couple of polls go.

Science Fiction is so much more than just those things though.

I do the same. I consider three things first: innovation, intent and impact. Then I think about quality of writing/acting/cinematography and editing. Then my general taste for the film.

You are very welcome. Two goals of the list: having fun and maybe influencing people to try other films.

I will consider these in the future. Don't worry more lists to come, and my big idea, which I might reveal after this list.
