Matthew Stafford had 7 TDs 13 ints and 12 sacks with 256 attempts his freshman year..Jarrett Lee had 13 TDs 16 ints and 8 sacks with 269 attempts his freshman year. FWIW JL had a slightly better completion percentage than Stafford, and if you take away the pick 6's their isnt much difference in the 2.

If this has already been brought up, i apologize. I keep seeing people use JLs performance from last year to justify keeping him benched THIS YEAR. All i am saying is young players DO improve, and theres nothing wrong with giving JL a series or 2 in each game. Stafford turned out OK in the end.

Yeah, and if you turned all of JJ's sacks into completions, he would be Tim Tebow.

I'm all for giving JL some snaps, but I think your argument needs some work.

There is a bit of a difference there. Also, Stafford was a much higher rated QB coming out of high school. Lee could turn it around like Stafford did, but it will be harder for him considering he doesn't have the same physical tools.

We got JJ who WILL NOT throw it.

And we got JL who WILL NOT get hit.

And we got both of em drifting back into a five step drop with no route development against some of the best defenses in college football.

Nothing could go wrong here..............could it?

I think at this point, now that JJ is getting some experience...why not throw both our qb's and RS into the mix? This couldn't do anything but help, and I'm almost sure it will open up opportunities with the run. JJ, JL and RS have their individual strengths..lets' use them!

Wow, do you enjoy comparing apples and oranges? First, Stafford was a TR FR while Pick 6 was a RS FR. Second, Stafford's bad portion of the year was the first part of the season...he actually improved...Pick 6 showed no noticeable improvement...in fact as the competition got tougher, teams started returning his passes for TDs. Next!!

The only reason people are so hard on Jarrett Lee are purely the Pick 6's and the Alabama game. If we win the Bama game, he's still starting QB. If the team makes a little effort on just 2 or 3 of his pick 6's, the kid wouldn't be so hated. He actually did play well at times. Hell, against UGA, he threw a Pick 6 on the first play, and then came right back and drove us down for a TD.

Just imagine what he'd be like if he actually had a QB coach worth a shite instead of Crowton.

I've been making the Stafford/Bradford/ McCoy "freshman to sophmore" improvement comparison for the past month. Some people are just so completely fricking close minded and biased in support for their LSU football gods (LM,JJ) that they're totally blind to what's really happening and refuse to face reality.

Way past time to see if JL has made any improvement. I don't give a shite what he did last season; I want to see what he can do in 2009. He should have gotten half the snaps in the OOC games and PT in the SEC games. Now it's going to be tough just throwing him in there. Has he even played except for coming in to throw the TD pass against Vanderbilt?. And, don't even get me started on the lack of PT for LSMWW1. (Lord Savior Messiah Water Walker 1) Ridiculous player management........

First time posting here. I've seen this topic here a few times, and felt the need to add something to it.

Stafford was a true freshman not a redshirt. Big difference. He arrived early but was co-3rd string through fall practice. He was thrown in the fire on the second game against South Carolina without the benefit of first team reps.

Stafford didn't throw any pick 6s his freshman year. In fact, he only threw two pick 6s the whole time he was UGA. One against UF in 2007 and another against GT in 2008.

quote:

If you want to point something out, at least do your research to support your claims. While its true Stafford was a true freshman that started school early like Shep did here, he struggled with ints. throughout the year. His last 2 games had an int in each (including the bowl game)

You need to do some research also. Stafford threw only one INT on his last three games. It was against Virginia Tech in the CFA Bowl, and VT had the #1 defense in the country. Stafford did not throw any INTs against AUB, who was ranked #5, or against GT.

You are comparing apples and oranges again. You are trying to compare a true freshman (Stafford) with a RS Freshman (JL) with one full season, a spring camp, and two full fall camps under this belt.

If you want to make this comparison, compare it to Stafford's second year with the team (like JL's). The comparison will make JL look like crap.

UGA had no other options except Stafford. LSU has plenty of other options besides Lee.
