Saints' kick that was blocked

I was at the game, so didnt get an explanation on it. Why did the Saints not get another try at a field goal?
Kick was blocked on 3rd down, Lions never had possesion of the ball and it went out of bounds. How is that any different than the RB fumbling the ball and it bounces off his foot and out of bounds.

the scoreboard said 3rd down. I was wondering why we didn't get another shot at the field goal as well
