Ok guys, don't blast me call me a "negatiger" or whatever but, the two problems on the defense or:
1) adjusting to a new coordinator and
2) a weaker than normal def. line

It may take a year or two for Chavis to get the Defense back to where it was. For whatever reason (some on this board may know) there seems to be a drop-off in the talent on the def line this year.

Just asking... did Saban push some players who were good athletes to defense?

Marcus Spears is one example. I think he was supposed to be a TE when he 1st got here. I don't think there's a whole lot more examples though. And I think these:

are valid concerns. We'll see how it all plays out, though.

If mememory serves me Saban did move alot of the better atheletes to D. He had no problem converting o lineman, slimming the down and putting them on the d line. PS. If this doesn't tighten up and we give up some 50+ points I am gonna freakin go nuts.

Jack Hunt wasn't what I would consider "good" on offense but he did make a crucial first down catch which led to LSU beating Bama at home for the first time in 30 years in 2000. And then we all know the rest of his history on defense.

Unfortunately, Jim Hawthorne never received the memo in 2002.

Seems to me Saban's best defensive years here had more to do with a complex scheme and the players ability to understand it.

Yes Saban did. You're just a Saban shoeshine boy.

Corrected: 2.) A heavier and slower than normal defensive line.

As quick as we became an elite program (after Title #2), we fell out of that club with a 3-5 SEC record the following season. Excuses will not fly. There will always be parts of the team that are stronger than others, but for anyone of them to be labeled as "struggling" is unacceptable at this point.

really?

based on what? we have 4 good athletes on the D-Line, they have played 1 game together this year, and one bad half, so what are basing your assumptions on?

Depends on your expectations. We won't dominate like in 03, but we'll be fine. I think the game today will tell us if UW was par for us or a fluke. We played well in the 2nd half last week.
