I may be wrong, but I think it came from a stretch in the 70s where it never rained in Tiger Stadium on Saturday nights. When they started announcing it for games I don't have a clue.

Corym has it right. During the 70's, it could be raining like hell on Saturday afternoon...come game time (7:30 then) it wasn't raining.
Not sure the first time it rained on a Saturday night game in Tiger Stadium. Would be interesting to see. All I know is in the past few years, I've gotten wet every year...tomorrow looks the same. Oh well...

Somebody should make purple and gold LSU waders for games such as this. They would look very stylish with our ponchos.......
