I'd be fine if Mainieri just didn't even sign Top 10 round guys anymore. They are just way too risky like this.

Its not that. Mahtook and Mitchell were both top 10 round talents, Ranaudo and LaMahieu were as well. Whats important is guaging the likelihood they will sign. Ranaudo and LaMahieu were both somewhat raw and wanted big time bucks to sign, so it was a reasonable gamble. You need that top 10 talent to win, but you need to find the kids who value education/college experience and aren't gonna get 7 figures.
