Likely Cuts to Come

no big surprises-
T-P:
It sounds like defensive tackle Brian Young won't be on the Saints' roster this year. Payton said he had another knee surgery three weeks ago, and he just can't seem to get healthy. It's too bad. Young is one of the great guys in this locker room, but his body isn't cooperating.
Payton wouldn't get into specifics about veteran who might be cut from the roster going forward. But he said, "There may be some moves still made that affect our current roster."
Here's two other names still in jeopardy: defensive tackle Hollis Thomas and cornerback Jason David.
David is now buried pretty far down on the depth chart, but Payton said he's still got a chance to stick around through the OTAs and training camp to see if he can improve under new coordinator Gregg Williams' system.

David will definitely be gone. There are just too many DB's on this team now.
I'd also expect Harper to be traded/cut before the season starts. With the move of Young to S, I think you'll see him and Sharper manning that spot with Jenkins rotating around the backfield.

That's 2 good DT's. Wonder where there're going to find some more bodies?

Hey, diat, are you currently having problems with SR.com?

David definitely. A season too late imo.

I think though Thomas and Young play DT alot depends on Grant and Smith's suspensions. As to Harper I think he makes it to camp atleast.

I thought that Payton hinted at Jason David sticking around with his quote that "I'm going to leave somebody out here and then everybody will go crazy saying that it means that such and such a guy is not part of our plans."
I believe he was talking about when he left Jason David off a list of secondary guys and then Duncan started saying that JD's release was imminent.
We'll see - I agree that the depth chart isn't in his favor now. The only thing I'd add is that Randall Gay got hurt every other week and David has been active all the time and is a straight playmaker.

Why the frick would Harper be cut? He is the best SS we have who went through a slump last year.

Harper's not likely to be cut IMHO.
More likely, we cut some of the guys that were just brought in as FAs like Chris Reis and Pierson Prioleau who were brought in as depth / training camp bodies.

nope. Sharper is the best SS we have.
I am amending my statement about him being cut. I think he will be the backup with Vaughn, but not cut. I was misreading the depth chart when I typed that.
Mea Culpa

Dude seriously, just who do plan on playing at Strong Safety?

I am already gonna start some shite but here goes-------time to get rid of Meachump!!!!! He will lose out WR 4 to Arrington which I posted on many occasions last year before AA got hurt. AA will be no.4 at least maybe 3 so Meachump's time is UP!!!!

nope. he was a strong safety in Minn. This topic was discussed in detail on TD back when he was signed, and there were a few links made that showed he played SS in Minn. We here just assumed he was a FS due to Bullocks leaving.

two points to make here, dude.
1. Sharper
2. FS and SS are interchangeable in GW's defense. It is positions only by name, and I expect it to be Sharper/Young. If young doesn't pan out, then Sharper/Harper.
anymore questions?

here's a link to CBS.sportsline listing Sharper as SS.
in the future, please don't post something as if it is fact if you are unsure of it. I don't mean this to be rude, but it comes off as arrogant and sarcastic. You will notice when I post things that I am unsure of that I pre-empt it with sayings such as "I think" or "I might be wrong".
school's out....

The Saints have agreed to terms on a contract with veteran free-agent safety Darren Sharper, who should start for them at strong safety

we may get rid of one, but not two. we are thin at DT. so at least one of young or thomas stays. maybe both. because of size, thomas is far more valuable in my opinion.

id like the saints to hang on to hollis unless he isnt at weight or hurt again

It might be time to repost some of those thingys about GW defense schemes and styles. Seems like the draft woke up a lot of folks.
