Of course, now he is one of the most vocal critics of the steroid era and its key participants. This either makes him a self-serving hypocrite or a complete moron (assuming he thought any of the guys other than Frank Thomas were clean). For such an avid baseball fan, he should know that players don't normally hit their peak at 35.
