With FSU sanctions does LSU pickup 3 more NC?

It appears that FSU may have to forfeit the 2006,2007, and 2008 Men's T&F titles and LSU was second each of those years. LINK

Who really wants a MNC that someone had to forfeit???
If you didn't win it in competition what difference does it really make? Now Ole Piss would GLADLY hang a banner proclaiming any championship that they can get their hands on, but that is Ole Piss- at LSU, the championships that we get are won ON THE FIELD or in the competition in this case.

If they were disqualified due to cheating, then it makes a difference.

If they were disqualified THAT DAY, then that is one thing, but who the hell wants a national championship that gets handed to you because of something that happened OFF THE FIELD??? What a joke. I want to beat them on the field of competition- THAT is a championship. Second sucks- end of story.

think the titles are just vacated

True.....would you not accept a NC if they were caught cheating at the time of the meet?...so it's a couple of years later.....so what?.....cheating is cheating. Had they been caught beforehand, they would have been disqualified, therefore no NC for them.

I do believe you are correct- the school would be stripped of the championship, and no one would be listed as winning the championship for that season.

Have you ever, actually played organized sports? If so, you might feel differently...cheating is cheating, just because it took them four years to catch them does not change a thing. The truth is, if they cheated, we did beat them on the field.

WHY are you questionning MY credentials??? Yes, I have played organized sports! I do know that finished second is just that- finishing second. Two or three years later, if someone comes up to you and gives you the championship, the only thing you are thinking is that we didn't win it that day and you have moved on.
THEY did NOT cheat on the field of competition. I am not going to argue about this. You wanted opinions, and you have mine...

No I didn't ask for opinions I asked for information. You offered YOUR opinion unsolicited. Have a nice day.

I think there is an obscure NCAA reg that reads if any Nationa championship is vacated the University of Alabama may claim it

"Information"???
What "Information" were you looking for???

If anyone knew the NCAA ruling in these matters...not whether or not the fan base wanted to accept the trophy.

Sandperson
I tend to agree with a previous poster- the championship would simply be vacated and no one would claim that year's championship.
I will be happy to try and look it up on the NCAA site if you wish.

Thanks, I did and it looks like the NCAA does recognize the second place finisher as "unofficial" champion.

Damn right LSU will take those three NC. I don't care that it took 5 years for the NCAA sanctioning committee to find that FSU broke the rules.
Posted on 3/7/09 at 9:19 am to TigerOnTheProwl
They had to cheat to get there. If they would not have cheated they wouldn't have been there.

For those who don't think it matters WHEN it was discovered FSU cheated and we shouldn't accept the NC if it does indeed fall to us, if you were playing poker or betting on a horse race, lost your money and it was discovered later that the winner cheated, would you refuse to take the money that was rightfully yours?
Cheating is cheating and doing so affects the outcome of the event and it doesn't matter when it is discovered. You can't claim that you beat someone fairly and squarely if you cheated, so to say that FSU "won" on the field is simply not true!
I notice on that site they have "John May" listed as coach. I don't know who that is but I know that "Joe May" coached the men's team at one time.
