SHARPER EXPECTED TO BE A SAINT
Posted by Mike Florio on February 23, 2009, 6:40 a.m. EST
Sid Hartman of the Minneapolis Star Tribune echoes a tidbit we first heard several weeks ago: Vikings safety Darren Sharper won’t be returning to the team, and instead will be signing with the Saints.
Sharper will be a free agent as of midnight on Friday, and Hartman says that, while the Vikings will be trying to keep center Matt Birk and tight end Jim Kleinsasser, they’re ready to let Sharper walk.
The move makes sense, given Sharper’s age (33) and the presence of safeties Madieu Williams and Tyrell Johnson.
Sharper ranks 18th on the all-time interception list.

i really don't know if he has much left in terms of man coverage

if we can get him for cheap, i love this move

If we sign him we'll be in this same situation next offseason.

I see him as Sammy Knight V2.0. Has about two more years left in him IMHO and can help teach the young guys. I like the move as long as we don't over pay.

Its a great addition
We've got no proven veterans in the secondary except for a questionable McKenzie. Were gonna need somebody to help coach up our youth back there.

good move
sharper isnt going to make any pro bowls as a saint, but getting a vet with a ton of proven success is only going to help the scrubs we have back there now

Oh goody gumdrops. Another over the hill safety who's past his prime to give the FO yet another excuse for not actually addressing the position.

Not the greatest pick-up, but this makes him the best safety the saints have.
