I stand corrected ... PREACH!
Sorry/ Don't want to sound so much like a preacher, but am so happy tonight. everyone who understands the game is making great points. One thing we can all agree on is this is one of the most glorious days in this teams history. I belive this team was at a crossroad for this adinistration. By making this move Sean Payton is showing he is willing to do what it takes to build a championship team. I ay be a fool, but I believe in this guy.

yes but he'll never replace himself as bigtime decision maker when the game is on the line and I don't yet have confidence in him for that.

Altho, if sean payton had a decent d backing up his offense, i bet some of his stupid arse decisions would looks smarter.

This is where a lot of people are missing the boat. Everyone who does any job needs a learning cuve. Do I think every move he has mace has been right. Not by a stretch. But he is learning, & this move today proves he is willing to do what he needs to, to become the kind of coach we need to be champions.

I have to disagree, staffing and roster management is a completely different ballpark than playcalling and ingame decision making.

what he does in one area probably doesnt mean anything to the other.

i could easily see our defense be a top 15 defense with him at the helm next year...

it's nice to be optimistic but this is lil much

we had the 11th ranked defense in 2006 (Gibbs' first year)...we have better athletes on the defense now...and if we stay healthy...and have Gregg Williams on board, we can EASILY be a top 15 defense...

didn't the jaguars d suck this year?

You guys got to stop looking at a coach by one year. Look at the body of work.

Greg Williams would be the best OC or DC hire in the history of the Saints. This dude "gets it". He knows when to blitz, blitzes often, and has the clout and respect league-wide to help recruit FA's.

If we sign him and our D-Line doesn't look as good as we've all dreamt it would look with 3 first round picks (Smith, Grant, Ellis), I will eat crow very publicly. His blitz schemes will free up one of the guys I mentioned above (or McCray) for twice as many sacks as they got last season.

maybe...but his defenses at washington and buffalo were solid. i won't judge him on one year with j-ville when the whole team sucked. his track record is good.

honestly, i don't see us making a better hire.

i don't want to see them take another shot on a position coach. i'd like someone with experience. dallas' lb's were great, but gibbs as a dc sucked.

Yeah but when he was at Washington he had the NFL's 8th ranked defense. With the right players and his scheme we can have a ball hawk defense

Jacksonville defense allowed just under 22 points a game. We gave up 24.5. But his defenses had better seasons previously, esp 2005 and 2007.

give us Williams and a killer Safety and this team is playoff bound. Give us a good running game along with that and we are SuperBowl bound.

I think him and J Del Rio had some problems

I agree, Jack Del Rio is a "Defensive" coach, they butted heads all season. He wouldn't have that problem here. Payton was told yesterday that NFL teams play defense too.

I like Williams or Sean McDermit (Spell?) from Philly (We would have to wait to interview him though)

Will Ed Reed be a free agent? Or is that a stupid question?

theres no way a team loses someone like ed reed when hes playing this well. He is guarenteed franchise or resigning before FA hits.

and fwiw, i think hes still got a while before his contract is up.

and it's a stupid question

They put a big time pass rush and force the QB into mistakes. Ed Reed is a Hall of Fame player but the other secondary guys are just good.

Our scheme is terrible, we ask our Corners to cover the Wide Outs for 20 to 40 yards with no pass rush or help over the top. Champ Bailey would struggle in last years Defense.
