My car just developed a situation where the A/C seems to be working ok but nothing is coming out of the vents that face the driver and the passenger. Is this a simple thing that could potentially be an easy and fairly inexpensive fix? I’m wondering if it can just be a fuse or a blocked up cabin filter. TIA for any helpful and / or sarcastic answers.

ETA: it’s a 2014 Ford Flex SEL

Did you try unplugging it, counting to 10, and plugging it back in?

Check the cabin filter and to see if the fan motor is running.

Is air coming out of any vents? If it works on say defrost or floor but not the center vents, it's more than likely an actuator motor. They control the doors that direct airflow.

Where is the cold air coming out of, I assume it is coming out of some of the vents for you to say the A/C seems to be working OK.

It may be a failure in the sub-systems the shifts the air from the floor vents to the body level vents to the defrosting vents. If it is coming from the floor vents try switching to the defrosting vents and see if it changes.

It’s coming out of all of the other vents except for the ones facing the driver and the passenger. This seems to be the case whether it’s the heater, defrost or the A/C.

If the air is flowing out of the defroster or vents not facing the driver. It could be controls/connections relating to electric motors or vacuum hoses and ports operating the deflector doors. Posting the year, make and model of the vehicle can help with troubleshooting.

I like to take the approach of a engineer. In order to help, can you give us the year, make, model of the vehicle?

Yep, even tried the old Fonzie smack it with the side of my fist trick. No joy.

I'd you have a dual zone system it sounds like the temperature blend door. I wish I could help more. I would suggest trying to ask around in your location and find if you can ask for a good AC guy that does this on the side rather than taking it to a dealership.

Sounds like the diverter is sticking. From what vents is air coming from?

My tacoma does this sometimes and I "fix" it by slamming the glove box door really hard.

As others have suggested you have a blend door issue. It could be the actuator, it could be mechanically stuck, or it could be the electrical/electronic system that controls it.

Yep. In a lot of vehicles the components or modules controlling the HVAC doors are located at or near the back of the glove box.
