That’s why I looked into his eyes the whole time. He was in pain but never welped or cried. Poor little fella was just scared cause he didn’t realize what was going on.

May 31st will be a year without my best bud. I know the pain you are feeling having to make that decision. Your pup is up there having a good time til you see him again - he’ll be waiting for you.

Sucks. Had to put down my 9 year old golden A month ago . lymphoma in her back hind leg.. damn tumor grew like a wildfire and burst in a week.. lasted another 3 weeks before she became septic and we put her down. Vet said she’d only seen one other tumor blow up so fast and aggressive

Ugh.

No symptoms at all to limping and a little swelling and got an X-ray… cancer and minor fracture from the weakened bone.

Either put her down immediately or try amputation and treatment for an estimated 12-18 months.

Pet insurance paying most, and a lot of feedback from folks that tried the surgical route talked us into entertaining amputation. Feels like I’m on borrowed time every day for better and worse. Amazing how fast they adapt though. She was up and walking - could even do stairs - about 30 hours after surgery.

The biggest thing was that there was a high likelihood when the day comes it’ll be what was described as non painful tumors in the lung that cause some coughing and we absolutely will make the decision to let her go before there’s any escalation of that. I wasn’t trying to do 12 months with unfair bookends. Quick to get back into life and a soft landing at the end were key.

Don’t know it was the right choice but she’s a happy girl and the family has been appreciative to have her.

Very similar. Lola had a swollen back leg one morning and had trouble doing her business. We had x-rays taken on the leg and it extended to her abdomen that had a massive tumor. We had to put her down the next day. Ruffas developed cancer in a paw that spread rapidly and we lost both within three months of each other. We were devastated.

Had to bring our 12 year old dog to vet a couple of weeks ago after she just started randomly falling and stumbling around.

I thought she was stroking out on me and went straight to the vet. She ended up having an ear infection so we're hoping that was the cause as nothing else really came up in bloodwork, but I know that dreaded day is coming sooner rather than later.

Glad it worked out for you. I’d say only thing is when it comes time, don’t wait. That’s the only regret I have. Golden had megaesophagus. It hit quick. Tried sitting him up feeding, tried the Sildenafil trick. It just got too bad too quick. Wish I would have let him go sooner. Paid a pretty penny to have someone come to the house and euthanize him at home to make it easier for him.

The firm pact made was immediately when it starts to crop back up it isn’t a discussion about radiation, or other treatments- it’s give her the best weekend ever and let her go

That was pretty well a non negotiable for us when even considering the option

Our vet has been kind and when we lost our other dog earlier this year she came to the house, no added fees or anything. Seeing that old man have a rough last week or two really had us adamant about no suffering in this. I hope that holds true.

We had to put our Brittney, Gussie down. He was 15 and lost the use of his hind legs. Also had vertigo, it was bad. We miss him so much.

Sorry about this. Sucks

Sorry about your pet.

If you want another pet go to the shelter and get another one ASAP. Or take a break. Pets are a lot of work.

Sorry to hear that it's a hard decision to make. I faced that last fall but he passed the day before we had to do that. Pets are family.

This is going to be the struggle. I miss the genuine, unspoken companionship and the connection the kids develop with the dog, but I am curious what life is like without the responsibility for a little while. Idk, I doubt I last a year.
