People selling their cars at ridiculous prices on FB Marketplace

Anyone else notice this? I'm not looking for a vehicle but I'm a member of a few "for sale/wanted" groups on FB and seeing vehicles being sold for way over book value. For instance, this morning I saw a guy selling a 1995 Ford F150 for $12K. I won't lie, this truck was in pristine condition with only 60K miles but when you go on KBB and punch in the numbers and grading the truck as "excellent", the max private party price is less than $5K. What makes this truck so special that you're trying to sell it for well over double what it's wort? Will it give me a handy every day when I drive?

Can you send me the link?

If someone will pay that price, then it is a fair price. Otherwise, it will sit in his driveway.
Free markets are wonderful things.

I think some Facebook car ads are some sort of scam. A couple years ago there was a too good to be true sale of a 1997 Silverado, by a supposedly private individual. I looked into it bc I was interested. Then I see the exact same truck and ad were posted by other sellers in different cities.

I'll send a screenshot. It has the person's name.

The truck is not worth $5K., most likely a lot more. Go to bringatrailer and look at the auction results for 1992-1997 Ford F150. People will pay more for nice low mileage vehicles especially when a new one will cost you more than $50K.

A car just like your house or anything else is only worth what someone is willing to pay/transact for it. They can list it for whatever the want it doesn't mean it is selling for that or will sell for that.

That’s a classic. Pretty cool truck. They might be going for a little more for style and look. They literally might be worth 5k but people might be buying them on a hotter market. You should email him and ask them the same questions you’re asking us. Then post response.

He will probably get that. People are starting to see these as classics. A lot of people are installing Coyote engines and daily driving them.
Minimum I would say is $10500.

Someone would probably pay that for a pristine 1995 truck. There’s a lot of nostalgia for 90s pickups.
Sorry for the thread hijack, but I have to say. Nothing is crazier than the sellers on Texas Gun Trader. I understand sellers wanting to start high, but they routinely list ammo or used guns for higher than what they cost new at a store. And then they’ll write something aggressive like “don’t waste my time with low offers”. Why would I ever meet you in a parking lot to buy ammo from you when I can get the exact same ammo for cheaper from Academy? I just assume they’re trying to sell to people who can’t legally own.

I've noticed that the market for older used cars with low miles tends to get pretty crazy. There is an argument to be made for the value of those being high...probably not THAT much higher...but the "rare barn find" crowd tends to eat these up.

Supply and demand. How many of that age and condition are currently on the market?

I thought it said "selling their cats...."
I'm disappointed now.

That body style is popular & easily commands that much with that type of mileage

I just bought a 2003 Chevrolet 3500 flatbed with a 6.0 liter manual transmission at a public auction and there was 13 people bidding on it. Brought $17000. Only had 77,000 miles. Basic truck with manual windows.

Not really. One idiot overpaying does not make it a fair price. You'd have to look at several similar vehicle sales to see what the free market's real value is.

I have a white 1995 Ford F-150 just like that and I've been approached several times by people asking if i want to sell it.
Took it to CTC last year and a guy tried to give me $6000 cash for it.
