He struggled with command at first, but the Rangers had a plan in place to extend his development… and it has worked. He has flashed some excellent stuff of late and is being called up to face the Tigers in Detroit this Thursday.

The no. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft struck out ten batters in his most recent start. Rangers need arms. I like it… this organization has placed a direct emphasis on developing young talent to supplement well paid veterans.

It’s such a massive breath of fresh air to have the Rangers actually developing their young talent. We had a whirlwind go on for nearly a decade where we just couldn’t develop talent. Hell I still think we hindered Jurrickson Profar’s development. (Although Profar has turned out to be a serviceable big leaguer) Leiter was going to be called up this season regardless or else he would have been available in the Rule 5 draft. It’s possible we swung and missed on the Kumar Rocker pick. I don’t like the Astros at all, but I respected the way they developed young stars the last 7-8 years and we took note from their playbook.

Rocker looked like a can’t miss guy to me. I guess there is still time for him. If anything I learned last year that Bochy will call up anyone and everyone to come chew innings later on in the year. This may include Rocker later on… time will tell.

There were A LOT of people saying he was risky because of attitude issues, issues with his ability to repeat his me mechanics (from what I remember)

Yea he’s a beast so I’m sure he’s coasted on physical strength up to this point. MLB hitters DGAF about your size or strength… they’ll nuke Jupiter with 100 mph fastballs.

I'm excited to see Leiters mlb debut. Really hope he does well.

As for K Rocker...maybe the worst top 5 pick in recent memory. He was slotted as late 1st round maybe even 2nd round. Injury history and mental make up issues. Really big miss by Texas here. And you can't afford to miss on a top 5 pick when you have the Rangers history of poor development of minor league pitching.

No lies detected. However he did have Tommy John less than a year ago, so I still am going to maintain faith that management has a plan for his development.

Kumar signed for $2.4m underslot which allowed the Rangers to take Brock Porter who is one of the team's better pitching prospects.

Kumar was not drafted to be the BPA.

I think I had his dad’s rookie card in the 80s.

Most everyone had this casual-yet-sexy classic.
