Your friend needs to stop running straight antifreeze, maybe cut it down to 75% antifreeze/ 25% water.

He doesn’t drink.

I think we understand the problem now.

Your buddy needs to be asked about the weed he's been smoking to see if that had anything to do with it. Weed and seizures aren't strangers.

This. Seizure and loss of body temp control in otherwise healthy young person ... drugs are the first suspicion.

He could be experiencing cannabis intoxication. The weed is a lot stronger these days. Chronic heavy use is not benign and will affect your body. THC interacts with so many aspects of the body's regulatory systems.

My “Normal” temp is 97.6. There is a range and his being 5 below may not be as extreme as it looks especially after a seizure. I would think a certain level of shock would be expected after a seizure. Time may be the medicine.

Dude I’m pretty sure any body temp in the 93s is WELL below any acceptable range.

Your buddy is doing a lot more than medical weed. Ask him and see if he’ll come clean and admit it so he can get help.

Is this a normal type of test that the ER would have that covers a wide array of poisons?

No. Smart doctors notice certain things like hair loss, symptoms not improving by all other measures etc and will order certain tests. People have been found to have high levels or arsenic, cyanide, etc. Its just one possibility but alot of docs don't even think about that and will assume its other things. Its just an extra thing to look at when all other obvious reasons have been ruled out.

Funny the ER Dr got bashed when the buddy may have had something in his system that's hard to account for.

Yep. I didn’t mean to bash the doc. ER doc can only do what he can do.

I know a guy who ate elephant ear root thinking it was gin

I have both elephant ears and ginger in a garden. I never use the ginger root (or the nearby horseradish roots) without smelling them first to be sure it is what I think it is.

At ER, the doc told me that he had a temp five degrees below normal. Doc said he had absolutely no idea what might cause that.

he just refuses to speculate, which is the right thing to do.

he may have residual effects like reduced function related to his heart.

he could have a hell of a time staying warm in cold weather if they cant fix it

These post upset me so much because when people make these post they are usually desperate. I hope that your friend is feeling better and I hope he finds a good doctor to help him.

Sending up a prayer for your friend.
