I also learned in the USA northern Irish are mostly Catholic Irish and Southern Irish are the Protestant Irish. I had never thought about the differences before I read Lever's books.

It does kind of make sense that the ones on the short end of the stick would be the ones to pack up and leave

It's meaningless. There is no historic basis for the term. Most consistently, it's merely used to describe non-whites who were born in Ireland.
really? I thought it meant Irish with dark hair and brown/hazel eyes. Black Irish are really a selkie descendants, but Fr Murphy doesn’t like it when you believe in the fay - so black Irish is the term

Thanks for sharing. This is a different era than what I was referring to, but I’ll check it out.

Lost Tribes / British Israelism legend dates to 6th century BC - this is 1500 + years later.

Y-DNA doesn’t support this in any way. Irish are the most R1B haplogroup dominant country in the world, I believe ancient Phoenicians were predominantly J2

Can’t wait.

Heavy part of my heritage is Irish.

The dude is full of shite. Celtic and Phoenician are in no way related. Celtic is an Indo-European language closely related to most languages of Europe (English, Germanic, Slavic, Romance, Latin, Greek, etc.). Phoenician is a Semitic language of Canaan closely related to Hebrew.

What? No Irish need apply signs? Nobody would claim black, Irish, or Jew to get a job or an apartment.

Irish are following (at least Dublin) the EU model. The countryside doesn't necessarily agree, but urban areas and women. As usual. They have shitcanned their history and their principles quite easily.

this is stupid - the women in the countryside and the west don’t see the benefits of the EU

Read up on what’s actually happening

Ok, so are Limerick, Galway, Cork, Killarney, Sligo, Waterford, considered countryside? I know they see all the "benefits" of the EU, whereas the woman that lives in Ballycotton, for instance, sees no benefit except for the ability to live on the continent.

Fishermen’s wives don’t see the point - since they can’t fish their own waters

If you’ve been to Dublin and to Sligo - you’d know the answer to your question
