My son had kidney failure, plus cirrhosis of the liver last year.He was in ICU for 2 weeks. The day they said he would need dialysis the golden urine started draining! He was still on the vent and had other problems, but one month later he was discharged! He went yesterday to the kidney doctor and she is so pleased with his recovery, he only has to return 6 months later! I give all credit to our Lord Jesus Christ. My message is don't give up. Accept all prayers offered and believe! If you need a transplant, do it! You have a lot to offer! You are in my prayers!

Tell her to consider this. My mom had her gallbladder removed and it messed up her digestion. This has helped her and if you read the reviews it also helps those with gallbladder issues who still have their gallbladder.

Do what you have to do to stay alive. Docs took one from me during cancer surgery a couple of years ago and my second is struggling to stay at full operation - I may be headed for dialysis as well which means the end of my trucking career. But life is worth living and we will adapt!

I’ve been in the dialysis field for 12 years. At your age, I would definitely go the peritoneal route man. And get on that transplant list asap. What are they thinking the cause is? Are you diabetic or have really high BP? Some sorts auto immune disease? Best of luck, bud.

Same boat with kidney health as you, same age. I've lived with one for about 25 years and didn't realize back then the clock was kind of already ticking. Starting to ask questions I didn't know I would need to ask for a while down the road.
My doctor primarily works out of a dialysis center which is fricking depressing but it's the closer option of his two offices. I guess getting a glimpse of what could be my future was a place to start. The one comforting thing in my preparation is knowing this wasn't self inflicted but just an unfortunate situation of living off the one kidney for over half my life.
I'd be curious of others going through this here to have an idea what the process is like. Wishing you the best in your battle and to rebound, survive and be as healthy and well as possible going forward.
Unaware of the process of dialysis-donor-etc I'm already feeling guilt having two people offering being a donor which may some day land them in the same situation as I am.

If it's any consolation my cousin is about your age and has been on dialysis for a few years. He's married with two kids, has a pretty demanding job and is handling it alright.

Hey man, I know this is tough news to hear…I am 21, and my Mom is 42. She started having Kidney failure when I was about a year old, and she was diagnosed with Lupus. She has been through 4 kidney transplants(her most recent was Christmas Eve of 22). She has also been on Dialysis all but 6 of those years in my lifetime. She is fortunate enough to have a machine at home, and she can make her own dialysis schedule. I tell you all of this because this might help you in your struggles. My mom has always felt bad we might not have been able to do anything because she thinks her doing dialysis might hinder trips or stuff like that. It has never hindered a single thing in my life, we have both quite literally traveled the world while she has done dialysis. We recently were fortunate enough to go to Europe and we went on a 12 night cruise in the Med. Greek Isles, she was able to travel with her machine and we did dialysis on the cruise ship.
If you are able to get a dialysis machine, your everyday life will be the exact same pretty much, besides the time you are doing dialysis. My mom found it best for her to do it most days a week for 3-3 1/2 hours a day. She would just read or watch a Tv show during this time.
Ik you can also do a method of Dialysis where you are on the machine while you are sleeping through the night. Just depends on what you prefer. If you have to go to a clinic to do Dialysis you will probably have to slightly change your schedule to be able to go to the clinic a few times a week(but this means it will be longer on the machine because it is less times a week).
Long story short, you will pretty much be able to do everything you are already doing, you just have to put a few hours X amount of days aside to be on a machine to filter your blood. You might feel weak or bad every now and then if something comes up and you can’t do dialysis one day, but most of the time(as my Mom explains to people) “I live a perfectly normal life, its just a matter of scheduling that is different)
I understand its awful news you didn’t want to hear, and it will be a life-adjustment. However, try your best to remain positive and lean on God if you are struggling with anything…he is always there for you even if you don’t see it. Praying for you!
