I think the truth lies in Kim was upfront about Kent and them bringing in transfers, without major improvement she wouldn’t play a whole lot this year either

I think Kim should play her bench more in general but our bench was god awful atrocious this year so I’m not losing sleep over Velez/Kent gone. It would have been nice if they stayed and potentially developed down the road but maybe they didn’t see the vision or it happening any time soon.

There are many guards in the portal who have a proven background that they can add. It’s the replacement of Reese which is the main issue


Plenty of quality guards in the portal. Posts are much more limited.

I'm hoping Kim gets involved, & not just as a closer (bc some don't even make it to campus to hear her pitch).

I've lost faith in Redus after witnessing a whole year of hollow tweets. Dude has whiffed on every PF/C in HS recruiting and currently hasn't brought in a Reese replacement, (and as close as he & Angel were, he certainly had advanced knowledge of her leaving). I know Redus is capable, as evidenced by the perfect 10.0 he had with the '23 class & portal, but one raw PG in the last 12 months ain't exactly hitting it.

We already realized if LSU bombed with the HS class, they'd have to hit the portal hard for starters & depth. It's not over but, so far, they only have one tall guard/wing in the portal to effectively replace Kent (and LSU was already depth-starved before Kent left).

Not sure if you realize but the '25 HS guard doesn't play until October of '25. This thread is about getting portal players for the start of the season in October of '24.

And how is anything I said considered a meltdown? I only listed facts that I view as underwhelming. I don't see how anyone can truthfully say the '24 haul (HS & portal) so far is good or outstanding.

I even gave a refutation to my own critique of Redus that he is capable. But pointed out facts that he's swung & struck out at the PF/C. Where's the lie? I would love to see Beers, Barker or Iriafen provide Redus redemption.

I think the larger problem is folks want a big name but I think Mulkey and crew learned their lesson last year with that. It needs to be fit, not name. I knew of HVL's talent last year but I was big on Jayda Walker and was really hoping LSU went after her cause she was the right fit, a true pg who could score if need be and she was a huge part of Baylor going deep again this year.

All 3 guards mentioned have their positives and negatives, but none of them actually play the 1 the way Mulkey has traditionally looked for. If that were the case Maddie Scherr wouldve been a great fit aside from only having 1 year left. So if its one or multiple of those 3, we'll still be adjusting someone to the spot in some way, unless the offense changes and I highly doubt that.

Phelia from Michigan just committed to Texas. They will be loaded next couple years in the SEC.

Phelia only had rebounding avg 3.5 pg, which is surprisingly low. Aneesah and Samyah will absolutely kill her on the boards. Flaujae and Mikaylah had higher rebounding numbers than her. Kim expects strong rebound numbers, even our guards have to aggressively rebound. With Angel gone, we have to continue strong rebounding, especially in the SEC.
