except, you know you're watching youtube on your apple phone and google is the default search engine.

but you do you.

But you can avoid using both youtube and google search. Is there a way to use Android without Google/Alphabet and without google collecting your usage data ?

It is difficult with iPhones, but known google services, downloads, and servers can be blocked. The stuff google goes oops my bad when caught like collecting WiFi data while doing street view pics and whatever they did to hack cookies on iOS Safari is likely still happening, but that just shows where the larger problem really is.

Apple can be avoided much more easily and completely than Google.

In some ways it's kind of funny. These woke corporations support these leftist politicians and then they sue them

It is funny to watch leftists eat their own. But Biden is desperate to try to give away all he can and pander to the Hoi polloi for votes since he's tanking in the polls on the economy.

The iPhone release completely changed phones and forced Samsung, Google, etc to up their games tremendously.

I do miss my Nokia Bricks, though.

So they're being punished for making a good product and corresponding ecosystem for said products? Do these fricksticks remember cellphones before the advent of the iPhone?
That’s a legitimate discussion to be had.

Is it still a monopoly if someone makes something so well, it becomes what everyone wants? Is Google a monopoly because they were just better and Alt Vista etc. just couldn’t hang? Does a monopoly imply less than reputable business practices?

Either way, it’s not better for consumers.

I will not fault apple for their revolutionary setup. It is great. I just like the freedom Android gives me more. Someone else may prefer apple or some other brand. No biggie

Android is more like the Windows PC concept where the OS is licensed and can run on various hardware so you have a bunch of hardware manufacturers competing. My $2100 PC would cost about three times as much to get the same performance if it were a Mac.

In the US it's about 60/40 iOS/Android

The obvious distinction here is Android is an open OS and many different companies manufacture Android phones.
IOS phones aka iPhones are only manufactured by one company, Apple.

Hopefully Apple is forced to switch to RCS. Text messaging has been needing a good updating for over a decade.

Apple has been holding out which is why texts sucks unless it's android to android or apple to apple.

Apple has said they plan to implement RCS on iPhones this year. I doubt they truly switch to RCS - more likely they just add RCS support in addition to iMessage.

They charge app companies 30% of all in app purchases and deplatform them if they redirect purchases off their system.

I’m sure this is just DOJ collecting taxes and it’ll go back to business as usual as soon as they get their settlement money, but apple is definitely monopolistic with their business practices.

It isn't a monopoly, though.
It is a huge market share.

You can't claim a company is monopolistic when they only have half of the market share and a direct competitor has the other half.

Apples swings a big dick with the apps because they can.
Not because they a monopoly.
Words matter.

60% is a huge market share.
But it isn't a monopoly.

Google, Microsoft, Amazon…and this is the “Monopoly” they are going after?! What a bunch of BS. Guess they aren’t greasing the right palms.
