quote:As a teenager was hanging out at the Shady Rest lounge on the banks of the beautiful Selzter creek between Hammond and Ponchatoula.. when Bruiser Bob Sweetan and Dick Murdoch stopped in for booze, they had just finish a match at the Loranger Col and was on their way to Houma for a match the next day. A local (one eyed crabber from Manchac) started asking them if they were lovers, shite hit the wall and there was blood on the floor, owner pulled a saw off shot gun and everybody hauled arse. Good times and so much excitement for a 17 yr old me.
No Love for the Luh-ran-ger Colliseum?

I went with my friend and his son to some Wildkat wrestling at a middle school.
It was awesome, I had never been that close to the action.
looks like they got an event coming up, with Mick Foley

My grandfather was Reisor Bowden. He did the ringside announcing at Hirsch Coliseum in Shreveport back in the day. Man he had some stories. He would go out to eat or for drinks with the wrestlers after the events.
Very cool. My only claim to fame was one of Tony Schiavone's sons was in my class in middle school when he was working for wcw.

Good to know. I liked Reisor. Ernie Ladd used to crack me up when he'd say "let me tell you something Reisor!!!" when Ladd was doing interviews with him.
Didn't your grandfather fall out of a chair he was sitting in when one of the wrestlers kicked the podium he was behind?
Those were the days

We had good seats on the floor near the ring at the LC Civic Center. Saw Jake the Snake Roberts get thrown out the ring. While he’s rolling around near edge of ring, smoothly in one motion reaches in his tights for a razor blade and right to the forehead. By the time he made it back in the ring, blood streaming down his face. Good times.

No doubt. I loved wrestling in the 80s back when you thought it was all real. I remember the Junkyard Dog and Hacksaw Duggan for sure. Did that group also have Bullet Bob Armstrong and Joe Leduc? Saturday morning wasn't complete without watching my wrestling!

In Lafayette, before Blackham, it was at a small arena call the "Entertainment Center" just off University Ave on the north side of where the now BNSF RR tracks cross.
I also recall MidSouth in the Heymann Center in Lafayette. Met Terry Taylor there as a kid, way before he took on the Red Rooster gimmick in WWF. My brothers and I would practically knock each other out practicing his flying forearm

Junkyard Dog vs Ted Dibiase at the Port Barre High School gym.
Played many basketball games in that gym i can only imagine having that small arse gym packed with people. Sweat shop comes to my mind. I can see JYD howling too. I had never heard about wrestling at that gym before.

I don't recall Brad's dad ever coming to Louisiana. Always thought he stayed in the GA/FL territories. If Bob did come to Louisiana, it would have been in the 70's I'm assuming.

OK I'm getting a Mandela effect off of this because when they were in Shreveport at Irish McNeil's gym, he was known as the Ugandan Warrior.

Legit cool story, but to be honest, I thought Reisor Bowden was the worst sports announcer in history.
Which made him perfect for Mid-South Wrestling.

Maybe so but man he had a great voice. He also did a lot voice over work and commercials for KTBS Channel 3. Not sure if you remember when channe 3 has “The Big Movie” late night on Saturday. That was him that you would here with that deep booming voice saying “Now it’s time for the BIG Movie”

I was too young to go, but my brother, my uncle (who is 2 years younger than my brother) and some of their friends used to go. I remember one time it was cold, but they all left their jackets in the car and when they got back to the car after it was over someone shattered a window of my mom's car and stole everyone's jacket.
When Macho Man was with WWF and they came to Baton Rouge, my brother saw Macho Man at the gas station. I think my brother was star struck and kept looking but trying not to be obvious, but couldn't help himself and Macho Man said, in his Macho Man voice "how we doing tonight my brother?".
In the mid to late 90s a friend of mine got the raven's autograph at Hooters off of college dr. I am pretty sure he was with WWF as well and again, they had another show in BR and after it was over he and some other people had gone to Hooters..
But wrestling in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s was the best. When they started to dial down their characters it turned to shite.
Kids today would probably have anxiety attacks if they went to wrestling.
