THIS. The TWA hotel is so cool, it's like stepping back in time to the 60s "Mad Men" days. During a trip to NYC the family and I actually spent about 2 hours just walking around, checking it out.
The day pass, I imagine, gets you access to their nice rooftop pool:
The other option is to actually go there a day early as the OP discussed and spending the night there.

It does. And when we did a day there it was nice to have a room to leave our stuff, shower, and nap in as well before catching our next flight.

I actually flew out of the TWA terminal to London many years ago.
