Will the speed cameras being installed on the basin be challenged in court?

Saw that work is starting for them to be installed on the basin. Haven't speed cameras been struck down in most places as not legally enforceable?

Really sad that the first thing Jeff Landry did was put these cameras up

So what friend of the Governor gets the money to set it up, and/or the money for the automatic fines?

Each camera will have a big truck wreck billboard attached
They put them right in the middle of the crawfish habitat

Louisiana’s interstate I-10 is decades behind the times and should have more lanes to increase traffic flow. Let’s add speed cameras to an already bad situation. Typical.

Traffic cameras and fines associated with them violate the Bill of Rights and due process. They are fining a vehicle vs a person. They are 100% unconstitutional.

Every one of them will go in the garbage, along with the ones from Baton Rouge.

Governor Honor Code would never have aligned himself with the greedy personal injury attorneys

I got my personal injury tax bill in yesterday. It’s sad that Landry passed a law that everyone has to pay to “make people whole” even if you’ve never driven a big truck

I’m hopeful these cameras get shot immediately after install.

You acting like these were being planned for prior to Landry taking office?

With the amount of traffic jams and the local artists known for their spraypainting talent, it’s not going to be long before the lenses are painted over
I’ll set the over/under at 3 months from completion

Houston was forced to get rid of them because they had no way to prove it was you driving. Cameras are a sensitive topic on this board for some reason.
I'd imagine the same will happen with the basin cameras after a couple legal fights

Basin Bridge should be widened to 4 lanes , EB and WB .

Theoretically you could just take that exit halfway and immediately hop back on the entrance ramp and that will be plenty of time to speed and still mess up the time

Good luck with ever getting the Basin bridge expanded. At the first mention of a possible expansion there will be activists out scouring the marsh for any lifeform they can claim is "threatened". See also: Bonnet Carre Spillway.

We all knew that Edwards was aligned with the plaintiff lawyers. The surprise was that Landry immediately aligned with them also.
Keep a close eye on the legislative session. It's the bills you don't hear about that you should hear about.

No the first thing he did was create an office of the first lady for his wife, and appoint a 26 year old from South Dakota to be head of the DoW&F.

The big rigs not adhering to the no passing law is the major reason for wrecks on the bridge. Look at the Causeway - minimal wrecks due to no 18 wheelers. It’s the trucks. While they’re necessary, they need to enforce the existing laws… not cameras.

I saw a segment on the Lafayette news last night that in a week or two they will start the work to install the new signage required for the speed cams.
Not sure if completely understood, but it sounded like the truck speed limit that is currently 55 mph would be upped to the current car speed limit of 60 mph.
Probably doesn't matter much because the trucks aren't following the restrictions currently in place anyway.
