My latest project is building an 8x10 pump shed on a slab I had poured. I've got it framed up, but before I continue, I'm not sure how to tackle the ventilation and insulation. Louisiana, so hot and wet in the summer, and occasional freezing in the winter. Of course, the internet has about 1000 ways to skin a cat, so what do yall think?

As of now its going to have LP siding, no sheathing, and a shingled roof.

Ventilation: Soffit vents? Ridge vent? I've noticed most sheds you see just have a simple gable vent. Is that enough?

Insulation: I'm leaning towards foam boards. Thickness?

Vapor barrier: Is this needed? Do I need tyvek wrap on the exterior under the siding? Do I need an interior vapor barrier over my studs/insulation? Does the roof decking need to be radiant barrier decking or will OSB suffice?

Am I overthinking this?

well pump shed?

mine is wood studs with hardie siding and a little metal roof that matches the house. No insulation and no slab (the pump is on stepping stones). A heat lamp does the trick in the winter

it’s 30 years old at least

Yes water well pump. I guess I'm definitely overdoing it.

Speaking of, I'm pretty sure from previous posts of yours that we live very close, NE side of Hammond. You ever have issues with iron in your water?

I dunno, you planning of having to live in the pump house at any time?

I forgo the wrb, insulation, vapor barrier and radiant barrier. I probably put a few vent in the gables with tight screen over them so when you go inside you aren't dodging wasps. You can cover vents and stick a light out there when it gets really cold. Try to think of how the well can be serviced with a rig when the time comes. hopefull the roof can be removed without to much trouble.

Just fyi, I live in Ascension parish, and am on a well with a few of my neighbors.

We had our water tested when after we built a new house about three years ago. The $250 test showed that everything was "in range", but some things were slightly high.

After a couple years of occasionally having white clothes/towels stained a light shade of brown, we finally installed a whole house filter. We had also experienced staining in the toilet tanks (which could be cleaned with citric acid)

All filter information seems highly biased by whoever is selling them.

We settled on a SpringWell system last year and have been very pleased with the results. It's made specifically for well water, which evidently typically has a problem with sulfur odors, iron and manganese. Since installation, we've had no more odors, and no staining at all.

Best of luck on your shed and your well water.

Can I ask how much it was to install the filter? I'm on a well and have the same issues with the toilet stains etc. Have a wife or girls in the house? My wife says she has to buy certain shampoos and its hard water which she says is not good for her skin. Did it help with those things?

im over on south coburn, between the interstate and old Covington hwy

the water is hard as shite but no real iron issues. No rust stains/etc.

it’s good water. It tastes great and it’s good for washing shite (carries soap well and rinses clean). I have city water at my barn and you can definitely tell the difference

Ya thats about a half mile from me, crazy though, our water is horrible with rust. I'm going to be adding some kind of fancy filter as soon as my pump fortress is built.

Water softener

I agree with the previous poster who said reviews of water filters are typically biased by the company doing the video and I’m sure Risinger may be as well. However, he says this is the one he installed in his house. Claims that it softens hard water without salt and draining. I’ve been looking at it for my well. Ridiculous price but if it works it may be worth it. I am considering so that I can avoid emptying the salt water into my yard.

On my well house, I just put a ridge cap vent. I over insulated it, and haven’t had any isssues. It’s near my house, so I recently installed a small AC unit in a window. I used the building to mount starlink so I did t have to mount it to house and wanted to use the building to house the router and switches, ect. Maybe more than what you desire, but over building a well house isn’t a bad idea because it can have future utility for other things.

Sorry, just seeing your question.

I installed it myself. A handful of piping parts, so less than $50 I'd say.
