Election season in full swing.

The governor announced a five-point subway safety plan Wednesday “to rid our subways of people [who] commit crimes and protect all New Yorkers.” The plan includes redeploying nearly 1,000 law enforcement members to conduct bag checks in “the city’s busiest transit stations,” according to Hochul.

“So, we’ll be having 750 members of the New York National Guard, as well as another 250 personnel from State and [Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer"> Police,” Hochul said during her announcement.

“You’ll start seeing them at the tables, making sure that weapons are not being brought in, working in… concert with our New York State Police, as well as our [New York Police Department (NYPD" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer">, because no one heading to their job, or to visit family or to go to a doctor appointment should worry that the person sitting next to them possesses a deadly weapon,” Hochul continued.

The governor’s announcement follows another announcement by the Big Apple’s mayor, in which he said the city is reinstituting bag checks in the fight against crime on the subway.

I would say that leadership has failed a city if the National Guard has to be called in to curb crime, outside of some sort of natural disaster...

Pretty pathetic...

Lololololololol

In the meantime, a former Marine faces a trial for manslaughter for protecting subway riders from a fricking lunatic.

Rudy cleaned that place up in short order back in the day and kept it that way. To his credit, by all accounts Bloomberg kept things in good shape during his time.

Amazing how quickly they let things slide back to 1970s levels and even worse in many respects under their subsequent “Progressive” leadership starting with the clown de Blasio and continuing with Adams.

Nothing Progressives manage to get their hands on turns out better. Absolutely nothing.

This can't be. I've been assured repeatedly by the NYC-dwelling lefties that the subway is perfectly safe.

This is totally not, I say NOT, the repugnant, disgusting, racist practice of "stop and frisk" though, not at all you go that? Ok, good.

We have a novel idea where I’m from, we arrest, prosecute, and incarcerate our criminals. They should try it sometime, it’s incredibly effective.
NYC and Manhattan used to be awesome, it’s an actual crime what Democrats have done to it.

But I was told crime is down. Why would they do this?

Ah.. TSA for the subway system, won't that be grand.
How long before this proves to be an utter failure and they ask for fed dollars to expand MTA and make this permanent?

What a putrid shithole NYC has become.

What exactly are they going to be empowered to do? Stand around and look tough? Police in the city fear retaliation by the liberal DA's office if they take action and they are trained in police work. The soldiers are not. Will they be able to use force? Weapons? How will they know when a crime is committed? Is the same liberal DA going to look the other way when they take action?

National Guard are not police and don’t generally function as such.

They are functional in disasters because emergency situations generally allow for different tactics.

This isn’t really the best of ideas.

They need more police presence, not the national guard.

This is simply feel good nonsense.

All they need are a few Paul Kerseys riding the rails.

Maybe I'm wrong here but from the videos that I've seen it isn't a gun or knife being used in the subways. It's bottles and fists. How're you going outlaw someone from making a fist or having a tumbler?
